You might try some of that high milage oil. I think most brands sell it. Been watching Horsepower TV & Trucks on the new TNN and they use that Royal Purple brand of oil. Add a can of Restore at your next oil change. That seems to help.

Delo 400 for sure. It is cleaner than most oils since it's for diesels. Arveetek told us about it and I've used it ever since. You can get it cheap at Wal-Mart and also get a Wix filter at O'Rilley's. That combo seems to be best.

I would try one of the high mileage oils and see if all the seal conditioners will help.

The high milage stuff works by swelling the gaskets, hopfully making them seal again. On my 87 caddy with 107,000miles I put it in and it swelled the rear main seal right out! That sucked.....

I have been using the Valvoline high mileage stuff and haven't had a problem. It did help slow oil leaks.

I will NEVER buy a FRAM oil filter again. I'm going with the Puralator, Mobil1, or K&N (what I currently have).

I put quakerstate in mine this time. I also bought a Bosch filter. I have been using Valvoline Max-Life but I wanted to see how it runs without the maxlife.

I either use AC Delco, or Wix (easy to get, as they are Napa Gold brand or the higher line from Carquest- I wouldn't use Carquest's cheaper line)

As for fram I won't use them again, as I lost a BBC at the strip because it wouldn't hold the oil pressure they said it would.
Also, my father said on his 18 wheelers, at 4K-5K miles, you could tell the oil pressure drop. Changed to Wix and has never had another problem.
These are just problems I'VE (or my family have had with them) but all this happened over 10 years ago. Don't know about now, and I'm NOT gonna give them another dime. (Unless they want to pay for the BBC I ruined)

My old man has since I can remember, and I still do, use the straight up cheap brand oil from Walmart or wherever, but use either NAPA or Wix filters (NAPA Gold filters are Wix, NAPA silver are Fram). My family has seen 5 cars peak 300k miles, and every 3000 on the money, the oil and filter are changed and everything greased. I'm sold on the fact that if you change your oil regularly; don't do the 6-9k change, you'll never smoke an engine if you drive it conservatively. Additives and what not can help an engine that's already abused, but if you have a tight engine, just change the oil frequently with whatever you can find, and run a good filter.

As a side note, 130k isn't too awful high for a 305, is it?

go ahead and scratch that Purolator filter off of your list. Purolator and Fram filters are one and the same. Purolator is the mother company to Fram.

Fram is part of allied signal which is part of the Honeywell conglomerate. Purolater is part of the ArvinMeritor conglomerate.

They are not related and the construction of their filters is different. There have been rumors of the purolater premium plus starting to use cardboard end caps on the filter cartridge in some of their models (just like the fram). I cannot substantiate this as I have never used the premium plus filter. The Pure ONE filter is a solid design and completely different from fram......and does not use cardboard end caps.

Anybody ever used AMSOIL?

I just bought my wife a '95 Grand Cherokee with 103,000 on it and the guy I bought it from said that all he's ever run in it. I'm wondering if I keep running it or not.

Bosch filters are the same as A/C Delco. Badge engineering.

10w40 oil is BAD...do not use it unless it's synthetic. The base oil in 10w30 and 10w40 is the same. They put fillers that are basicly parifin WAX to thicken it up to make 10w40. That ets in the oil rings and screws up the seal. GM will point blank void your warranty if you run 10w40 and they find out. It's in the owners manuals on anything from the late 80's.

I'm running Mobile 1 10w30 and Delco or Bosch filters in the burb. I have 10w30 high mile castrol in the 75. Valve guide seals are shot so not about to put $4 a quart oil in it. Running same stuff in wifes Honda.
