Manual trans question
The power team chart says I have a ch465 4 speed.
I thought I read somewhere it was a M20. Is there a simple id I can look for? I went to the heritage site and indication there is same power team chart. Any suggestions, comments? Many thanks. Cheers, Nim Posted via Mobile Device

Re: Manual trans question
The CH465 is an internally shifted wide ratio four speed transmission with a low first gear.
It is listed as RPO M20 on the SPID. It is not the same as the externally shifted car transmission by the same name. In the factory service manual it is the Muncie Four Speed trans.

Re: Manual trans question
M20 is just the option number for a particular platform, in your case, C/K series trucks. M shows transmission and 20 is GM's code for wide ratio 4 speed. In a performance car, it would have been the 2.52 first gear Muncie aluminum case side shifted trans. In a base model car it would have been a Saginaw side shifted iron 4 speed. And in a truck, it is the iron case top shifted SM465 which is also referred to as the CH465 in some literature, mostly early stuff.
Synchro-Mesh is what consensus seems to be that SM stands for, but who knows? It is also known as the 117mm 4 speed FWIW.
