filthy motor......

Well, I put a can and a half of gunk engine degreaser on it at my house.it loosened up the big stuff.took a small putty knife and scraped off the majority.sprayed it down with my hose but I couldnt get enough pressure.still is pretty filthy.

Suggestions on how to get the remainder off? Im guessing this has been on there for a LONG time.

my brother might be able to borrow a pressure washer from his painting company.

Will the psi of the washer get whats left? Or do I need a certain cleaning agent

Re: filthy motor......

Are you doing that with it warm or cold? I would run the truck down the highway and get it nice and warm, and then try some degreaser and water.

Castro Super clean is the best cleaner I have ever used.
this motor fire wall and fenders were coated with filth real bad but some Castrol super and a power washer cleaned it up great.

Re: filthy motor......

That Gunk engine cleaner is some good stuff but the baked on oil and grease may take several applications to remove it. Also in our area the local car washes have an engine cleaner option. It seems to work pretty good too on the normal oil and dirt accumulation. Spray it on a warm engine, let it sit while you wash the rest of the truck, then rinse the engine down. High pressure spray helps alot.

Isn't that Easy Off oven cleaner hard on paint?

Re: filthy motor......

My bad guys, forgot to mention the motor/trans is out of the truck. So I cant run it to get the motor hot.
Itll need to be repainted, so im not worried about eating paint that is on there.

The compartment itself was filthy too

Engine before any gunk

I would definitely try to get ahold of a pressure washer.

Re: filthy motor......

Do we need to put a plastic bag around the distributor and carb or anything? Alternator? Want to make sure the truck will start afterwards

Re: filthy motor......

Product called "Marine Clean", made by POR-15.

Get it, use it, love it... No pressure washer needed... just time and a garden hose.

Making auto part store rounds. No POR-15 Marine Clean. AZ had 2 for $5 Power Purple "concentrated industrial strength cleaner/degreaser". The man said it works pretty good so I bought. I was surprised how grease globs seemed to disappear with minimal elbow grease. Pretty good stuff for cleaning gunked up greasy parts w/o much mess.

Re: filthy motor......

Kerosene in spray bottle and plastic bondo spreader knife. Cut different widths bondo knifes. Dispose of grease properly or just dump in the gulf like BP . Protect water sensitive bits w/ plastic. Spray bottle pure laundry detergent. Pressure washer. Quickly grease exposed suspension; steering; etc to drive out H2O before corrosion.

I was able to keep factory original paint on motor mount after kerosene, detergent, pressure wash clean. Many other ways work too.

Por 15 marine clean is awesome stuff like they said above. I usually put hot water in a spray bottle to clean the marine clean off. Grease falls right off

Re: filthy motor......

I like purple power, don't get on aluminum or nice paint.
Grab the wire wheel and flapper disc and clean that engine up before you repaint.

Re: filthy motor......

Luckily I dont have nice paint or aluminum to worry about

Would using a wire brush before the pressure washer help?
Some of the stuff on the heads seems like its gonna be the hardest to get off.

I'm tellin' ya... Marine Clean needs no pressure washer, and it won't screw up paint or aluminum. I sprayed it all over my firewall and inner fenders. Didn't mess the paint up one bit. If you look at my build pics... that is the original paint on that firewall.

It is quite possibly the best cleaner I've used on the planet... bar none. I've used Purple Power and Castrol Super Clean... they work... but not as easy as Marine Clean.

Re: filthy motor......

Im gonna go get purple power or the castrol super clean and a wire brush. Gonna just tackle each area little by little. Then after its been scraped entirely ill apply some more cleaner then blast it with the pressure washer
