I killed my compressor, what should I get?

My poor overworked, under powered compressor finally died and I'm in the market for a new one under $1000 and hopefully much under but I also want adequate output to run my air tools, bead blast cabinet, and spray some primer, etc. How about some opinions on what you have, how it performs, and cost.

at least a 60 gallon 2 stage compressor pdxhall but 80 gallon would be better

Ive got a Husky upright 60gal single stage. The older one that is all US made. You need to size your tank/CFM to your tools/usage. If your air tool use is an impact gun, your needs will be a lot different than if you are using a die grinder or a DA or your blast cabinet for hours. A single stage 60 like mine will do it all, but if I needed air hogs like a blaster I would want more capacity.

My new one is a three cylinder, all cast iron, 80 gallon tank, 5hp motor. Paid $800 brand new from a local independent tool guy here. it'll run my 8" mudhog DA or an airfile non stop.(it has a 100% duty cycle)

One thing that will help with air tools- always run a 3/8" hose- the cheap 1/4" ones will not give enough air.

I'd not have anything that'll put out less than 15CFM of air at 125 psi. JMO

Any brand name? Maybe it's sold out here somewhere. I'd like to take a look at it if it is.

Have a single stage IR 60 gallon 3 HP 135 psi compreesor from tractor supply. 100% duty cycle. If I did it again I would go with another IR But would def go two stage 80 gallon 175 psi.

I was in your exact situation two months ago. I really wanted to keep it under $1k, and I run a plasma cutter, air impacts, air cutoff tools, angle grinders etc, that my Craftsman couldn't handle. It seemed like it was going to be iffy finding something under 1K that would really do what I wanted, give me some head room and last a long time. Oh yeah, having something that was QUIET was important too - but that may not be an issue for you. Seemed like all the two stage compressors that were under $1k were a crapshoot as far as quality goes. I ended up getting a Quincy QT-54, and I'm glad I spent the extra $$$ ($1400 out the door), and it's made in the U.S.A. It's a 5hp, 4 cylinder, two stage w/60 gal tank - 100% duty cycle. Very quiet for what it puts out, never have to wait on air no matter what tool I'm running.

do not throw away your old tank// plenty of things it can b used for
my main use for my old 29gallon tank is as a final water trap feeding my blast cabinet it does a good job of gfetting any water out preventing clogups due to moisture to blasting material// i need all the moisture prevention i can get cause i'm 1/8mile from the ocean

Keep your eyes on ebay. You'd be surprised what you can find in industrial air compressors.

My father bought a 7.5HP 100 gal three phase compressor (I think it was a dayton) for $800 last year. PITA to get it home but we installed it behind the garage and he runs all his air tools and blast cabinet and never even makes it work hard. If you dont care about "pretty" some good deals can be had.

I picked up a Puma Belt-Drive Stationary Vertical Air Compressor 60-Gallon Vertical, 3 HP, 12 CFM. $509.00 with coupon.

So far it's been great and a huge upgrade from my 4gal 2HP compresses.
