Which of these 2 gauges is right for my 65.The one on the right has needle stops, the one on the left is more fluorescent green.

Neither.
Send them both to me and you won't have to worry about it anymore. ;o)

The left one looks '64-'66, the right one looks '60-'63

Does that have needle stops and a part number on the lip above the needle?

Re: All right vacuum gauge gurus

I have an air pressure gauge which came from a '65. The font matches your right one. Note the "2" and "3" . Also the needle style matches. Now one would assume that all gauges would have matching styles, so I would guess that the right one is correct for you.

Interesting, the gmpartswiki parts books list several vacuum gauges for different applications. The only description for left side dash installation is 1508976 65-66.

Re: All right vacuum gauge gurus

The part # is 5653435 on the gauge on the right which is a 65-66 C-60 gauge. I may use the one on the left though as I like the look of it better.

Don't feel that you have to buy a complete one that came out of a truck. GM was very good about parts compatability between all of their different makes and models. I wound up buying one on ebay from an Oldsmobile, and the mechanism was identical to the truck one. I gutted the mechanism and converted it to the truck's block-off plate, along with a vacuum gauge overlay decal. You have to be a fanatical expert to spot the difference between my gauge and an original one. The gauge overlay has a little more gloss than the original gauge face, but if you're doing overlays on all of the other gauges, you won't notice it.

Check out my '64 thread, and see post# 65. I show exactly how I did my gauge.

Re: All right vacuum gauge gurus

I had a nice Pontiac one all stored away in my shop loft for a future fit into my cluster. The other day I was looking for another part, when the vacuum gauge fell out of the box and bounced all the way down the stairs.
For some reason it doesn't work anymore. :-(

How are you testing it? With it hooked to an engine or with a vacuum pump? Vacuum gauges will not hold vacuum when you are using a hand help vacuum pump. They need constant vacuum from the engine.

Maybe a stupid question but did it work before you stored it? Does it appear to be damaged, that you can see?

Hope this helps,
Tom

Re: All right vacuum gauge gurus

I sucked on the hose. (no innuendo)
It would go from 0 to however much suction I could give.
Now it won't move at all.
