Panel alignment issues

So i found that my radiator mounts were never reallynpresent. Today and replaced them with some new ones. I think i opened up a can of worms. As soon as i got the new mounts in the gap between my doors at the top closed up. I tried tlooseningnup all the bolts but that made it worse. I knew that there was goingnto be some movement because i was going add about 1/4" to the front. But it moved alot. It he pictures are the before mounts and before and after of the gap.

The easy solution would be to cut the rubber mount in half. How thick is it suppose to be? Other than that iam i going to have to take the entire thing apart to realighn?

Re: Panel alignment issues

something u would probably do if it was trying the same thing. I woul but new cab bushings along with the core supports. That way your starting from a level playing field. It would be hard to replace one and not the other and get everything straight.

Re: Panel alignment issues

Even if the cab mounts are in good shape or new, you may have to shim them. The cab mounts have to be in the same line as the core support or you are going to have panel alignment issues.

Re: Panel alignment issues

About five years ago i did a frame off on the truck. I did eveything but the body work. I heard a knocking sound a few times and finally tracked down to the "missing" radiator mounts. I thought the guys that did the body work did a decent job st the time, but now that i have had some more time to start to finish the last 10% im finding lots of problems.

Is it uncomon to shim a body mount 1/4"?

Re: Panel alignment issues

I would not worry about 1/4 inch of shim if needed. You are working on a Blazer?

Just remember that what you do will have effect on other things. How do your doors shut now? It is all related and it will take time to get correct. Sometimes you will have to add shims to the body/cab to get the doors to shut correctly or add to the radiator support mounts.

If the doors shut nice and you are happy with the gaps, then you may need to shim everything 1/4 inch and then align front sheet metal to match.

Re: Panel alignment issues

Ok the four middle body mounts have about 1/4"-3/8" of shim. The four outside mounts have nothing. Are these the correct modt miunts?

Re: Panel alignment issues

Those cab mounts look weird. They are squashed way too much for cab mounts.

These trucks had crappy panel alignment from the factory... so getting them to line up 40 years later can be a real headache.

Re: Panel alignment issues

Alright today i loosened the body mounts and jacked up the body until the panels where alaigned. Its going to tar about 3/16" and it will be good. Ordered some shims and should be good to go be next weekend.
