Droppin the 74

Well I finally got off my rear end and dropped the 74. I've had most of the parts sitting around since March or so. I did the bulk of the rear end drop by myself last night and buttoned it up this morning.

The flip saddles I got from Specialty Retail here on the site, worked like a charm.

The rear end back on the ground.

This morning I got started on the front end. Due to a leaking brake hose and steering box, it took FOREVER to get the spindle apart. Once it was though, It went quick... Until Arizona summer got the better of me.

I've been on break for a few hours now, drank some gatorade and water and am about to go hit it back up. I should have some more pics tonight or in the morning.

You may need a shorter rear shock or shock extenders.

I like the 74, that green & white are perfect.. I'd like to get my 72 closer to the ground, good luck on the rest of the drop, & beating the heat.. #teamlongbed

Re: Droppin the 74

Thanks Guys! I am definitely needing the shock extenders, and some frame work as my steering box shredded the frame around the bolt holes. I also need to do the lower ball joints, but its dropped, all leaf springs intact. I need to get rid of the inner fenders as well, but all said and done, it came out nice.

Re: Droppin the 74

Its dropped with spindles 2.5"-3" and 1 cut coil.

The wheels are dodge 20" steel spares. I'm running 1.5" adapters on all 4 corners.

Re: Droppin the 74

With spindles and 1 cut coil, the tire isn't hitting the inner fender, is it?

Why did you say you have to remove the inner fenders?

Az Roads suck! There are a lot of potholes around here.

Walkerb, the spacers are actually adapters, sorry if I misspoke. They are 5x5 to 5x5.5 adapters, pretty easy to find. The only thing about them is you need to pull the wheels every couple months and make sure they are still tight. Better safe than getting passed up by one of your wheels on the highway.

1.5 spacers and the rims just bolt on? No other work required? SWEET

Re: Droppin the 74

Incidentally, with my 245/45/20's now that the suspension has settled fully, the tires rub when I turn. Imma try and roll the fender lips, and hope it clears

Re: Droppin the 74

I need a favor... Can you measure how much space you have in the rear between the tire and the outside bed lip? Do you think with your setup you could have used larger (wider) adapters

Re: Droppin the 74

Sorry for the long delay, I've been taking a break from the forums. I'll measure it up in the morning, but there's only about an inch or so clearance in the rear, but I'm also running 275/40/20's back there now.

No problem. I have them setup on the truck already and I might need a bigger tire too. I have a 245/35-20 and 2" adapters which leaves to much space for my taste

Thanks

Re: Droppin the 74

If you are still having a issue with the front tires rubbing the fenders, I did the same thing with the dodge wheels but I bought new rotors and redrilled then to the dodge pattern and have plenty of room on the fender lip side now

Did you drill them yourself? Any tips? I want to redrill mine, but I can't find a machine shop that will do it.
