What oil pan for a lowered ls swap?
I plan on lowering my truck soon and am swapping a 5.3 in that has a cracked pan, so I figure I might as well get one with more ground clearance. I have seen quite a few people that have commented on the truck pan hanging below the crossmember, just not many saying what pan they went with to fix the issue. I have heard of people using f-body pans, h3 pans and aftermarket pans also, does anyone have first hand experience with any of these?

I'm using a CTS-V pan & I'm lowered /c bags. It sits slightly higher than the stock k-member.

I have a NoLimit crossmember with the Fbody pan. Fits awesome, tons of clearance

Re: What oil pan for a lowered ls swap?
camaro/trans am ls1 oil pan, pickup tube and windage tray. It's the lowest profile and will give you the most clearance (even more so than the "GM hot rod swap pan"). you can also do a canton or moroso ls1 F-body pan (street/strip version, standard capacity) if you want to look pretty.

You definately DO NOT want the GM hot rod pan, that is basically the stock GM truck pan and it hangs way down low.
The F body is over an inch shallower in the sump than the CTVS, but the sump is longer. Some good threads here, hereand the best one here with all of the pictures and measurements.

The hot rod/lh8 pan isn't the truck pan, and I can tell you this because I'm staring at it under the bottom of my truck. The lh8 pan is still larger like the truck pan but has a different profile, sits shallower, but does fit lowered trucks just fine. The difference is that instead of hanging 1.5-2.5" below the xmember, it hangs about even with or a tad higher than the crossmember, depending on which perches and mounts you run.

^ x2
I'm running extreme PB front and rear, with the Hotrod pan, only about 5/8 below the crossmember, not a bad fit at all. It is definitely not the truck pan.

Anyway, if you're running stock suspension or running a mild drop, this pan will be just fine, imho.

Re: What oil pan for a lowered ls swap?
I picked up the GM hotrod pan(basically h3 hummer pc). For my app, lowered , but not slammed, it should fit the bill. Also less than $150, with pan/gasket/tray/hardware & dip tube? The 5.3 is not across the rails yet, but my bet is about even with the crossmember, or 1/2" below. That will work on a 3/5 drop, with 1 1/2" body drop (no taxes on the body drop) Longhorn

Re: What oil pan for a lowered ls swap?
I can pick up an f body pan for $200 with everything, gasket, bolts, pickup tube, dipstick and all so I'm just going to do that. I would like to see a pic if anyone has the hot rod pan since I'm probably going to swap a 5.3 into my dads 66 in the next year or so.

Re: What oil pan for a lowered ls swap?
I have trashed one pan from it hanging just below a crossmember in my trans am, I would rather pay a tad more and not worry about my pan hanging low. Thanks for the link though, I'm sure it will come in handy for people.
