Worn flex plate TEETH

Why does the teeth on the front of my flex plate wear,Also my 67 has a 327,3 speed.What does it take to replace my flex plate as it has a place where the stater misses it and what is a good one to buy,How many teeth are they...Thanks Jim in ohio

You won't find a flexplate in there. It is a flywheel. Remove trans, remove clutch, remove flywheel. Take to a machine shop and have a new ring installed.
