Cooling Fan question

Hello all,

I have a 1970 Chevy C20 that I am slowly restoring. I would like to install a thermostatic fan clutch in place of the flex blade fan. The engine is a 350.

My question is, will I need an engine fan-to-water pump spacer with a fan clutch to position the fan in the shroud correctly?

Currently, there is a approx. 2.5 inch spacer on the flex fan in my truck.

I am planning on ordering a 6 blade fan and standard duty thermostatic fan clutch.

Any photos would be great.

Thanks in advance!!!

Re: Cooling Fan question

On my 72 c10 with a 350 a p. O. Replaced the fActory clutch fan with an aftermarket flex fan. I found a factory clutch and fan on the parts board. The spacer is part of the clutch. I don't think the 70 trucks had a clutch fan but I don't see why a 72 wouldn't work. Not sure if 71 had them or not. Just be sure to ask for same engine/ trans and Ac or non Ac. You can also buy them new.

My early 69 3/4 ton with A/C (HD cooling) came new with a clutch fan. No spacer needed.

Re: Cooling Fan question

My '72 K20 has an OEM clutch fan. There's a short shaft from the mounting plate to the clutch unit (all one piece)... no additional spacer.

Re: Cooling Fan question

you should be able to get a fan and clutch off of almost any gm pickup or car and make it work i do think some fans are a little bigger than others , seams like some are 15" and some maybe 18" . as long as it does not hit the shroud, just leave off the spacer. some also have more blades than others...like 5 blade and 7 blade ...
