wheel and tire combo

Guys,I am going for a "rock-a-billy" look on my truck. So I am using steel 8 inch corvette rallys and BFG radial TAs...I was going to do 7" inch on the front and 8" on the rear, but this look, I am sort of liking....J may power coat them black and use a "bullet" looking center cap... I know the "rake" is too steep, but other than that, looking for opinions....

Not exactly 60's era wheels but definitely NASCAR! Building my 67 up with Aero Race Wheels and painting the Goodyear Eagle logos on the sidewalls.

Looks like a "cup" tire and wheel. Those will look cool on a truck..

Re: wheel and tire combo

A little lower in the rear, black wheels, chrome bullits and lugs. I would have them do the steps black at the same time, loose the chrome in the middle look and stick with chrome front and rear bumpers. I. Like the theme your using

I am with you....I was actually thinking of having the steps powder coated "satin" black.....And was thinking of having some "faded faux" looking numbers, stickers and sponsors......I would also like to have the bumpers smaller, like a couple of inches removed horizontally then welded back....so they become about 5 inches wide but stay the same length and look.....has somebody done that?

Re: wheel and tire combo

Do you have enough clearance from the axle to the frame to DE arch the rear springs, or like was mentioned above just try removing a few leafs.
Good to see your truck finished!

Re: wheel and tire combo

I dont know what rockibilly look is but I am using the same rims and caps, If you want shallow trim rings on front that are curved on edges look at the early GMC Safari Van will fit and for a deeper look on rear corvettes fit and are rounded versus the camaro or nova that are flat. I dont know how far you are from Phoenix but there is an Axle Spring company in Glendale Az (Glendale Spring) they can de-arch for the rear spring and it will lower the rear about 1 to 2 inches and very reasonable in price thats is where I had my rear spring done, by the way nice truck!

I don't know what "de-arching" is...Could you explain....I can only drop the back about 2 inches.... which I think would be good. And it's not quite finished....no interior needs carpet, headliner and new seat covers.....also camber is still about an inch off..

De-arching is flattening the springs by removing the arch the spring ends get closer to the ground, lowering the truck.

I am a bit confused about camber being an inch off though.
Caster and camber are measured in degrees.

Re: wheel and tire combo

Arizona Spring on Grant Rd East of Stone Ave. can dearch your springs here in Town, if there is no one in S. V..

What is keeping the front from being aligned? Scotts has four corner adjustmet

Thanks for the info about de-arching...I will check into it....you are right about the front end camber....I am "eye balling" it as I have been, when I used to be a "crew chief" for a late model (limited) at TRP...I used a crude level and have found that the thing, after adjusting the four corners, still has too much positive camber....I believe that I will have to discuss this with Scotts and see if the top A arms could be cut by about a 1/2 inch......so, I'll see....

I am a redneck from Kansas displaced to Phoenix. Now you got my attention! If you get the ass down a bit the only thing that would make it look better would be a block long power stand smoking down the street! Truck looks great, keep it up!

Re: wheel and tire combo

I love Rockabilly music and I can't picture it with regards to wheels. However, I do love old school and that is what I consider my combination to be (some people even call me a redneck ... that's really what I strive for!).

Re: wheel and tire combo

As for alingnmeent on your scotts IFS I used the guys over at Rillito Automotive.
He has aligned at least 4 different front ends for me............. but the Scotts took the longest, and he charged me time and material, so now he should be trained !!!
He is down the road from Az Spring at Grant and Oracle 320 W Rillito St 520-623-5260

Thanks for info on the alignment. I may take it there but it needs a shorter A arm on the top (or a longer one on the bottom)...so I need to contact Scotts at some point. I will finish it when I get theses wheels powered coated and all done....should be within 2 weeks.

From Studying Scott's front ends they will take a bit longer to adjust than most front end setups but should hold an alignment without issues until you wear them out unless you hit something so hard that you bend part of the suspension.
