Here is the story, recently purchased a Performer PRM Air gap intake for my 454 + .030 . The intake is rectangular port where as im using the oem oval port heads. I've read alot about people actually gaining power off of this mismatched couple and wanted to see if any of you guys are using this on a BBC setup.
Any input would be greatly appreciated! ![]()

Re: Rec Port Intake on Oval Port Heads..
The sq port intake can be installed on the oval port heads but you will lose power do to the mismatch. Get yourself the matching oval intake for your heads.

Re: Rec Port Intake on Oval Port Heads..
It's been documented in super Chevy and such. Gains are usually when the intake is a restriction. Any power loss would be seen only from the intake runners being to big and losing velocity. So low end power would be the sacrifice. But you wouldn't notice much. A matching oval port is a good idea but not required

Re: Rec Port Intake on Oval Port Heads..
I mean it makes sense to me in that your going from a larger intake port to a smaller port on the head that it will increase the velocity of the charge. but its not like a funnel and i feel that because the mismatched ports the air/fuel charge will just smack the flat surface of the head and create turbulance, all in all I am going to send it back and get the oval port style, I would feel better about it being right.
Thanks guys for your input!
