Changing the vent window seal

I assume you need to remove the door glass in able to get at the seal for the vent window. If so, how does that glass come out? My vent window seals are shot and I have to change them out.

any pointers?

Roll the window down then remove the two lower bolts that hold the vent window assemblyl in. Remove the upper door trim piece and the screws, then yank it out of the door. You will then see the spring tensioner located at the bottom of the vent window. This will need to be removed to get the vent window off the frame. The old weatherstrip is likely hardened to stone. you will need to cut it into sections, drill out the old rivets and then slide it out.
I would recommend buying new rivets specifically for the vent windows, I think LMC has a decent price. The new rubber is easy enough to get into place but a bit of a challenge to rivet by yourself. Your wife will come in handy here.
I would only tear one side apart using the other side as a reference in case things get mixed up.

squints has it pretty nailed down - i -used a lot of wd- 40 to help loosen all the old hard rubber than broke it into pieces and slide it out . hope you got good replacement vent rubber . soak the new rubber in warm soapy water - that;ll really make it slide in better or pushed in . there is a trick i learned about removing the window frame from the entire bar . once the spring tensioner is unbolted and off ( keep the parts in the right order ) you can CAREFULLY pull up on the frame thus clearing the pivot pin - than slide the frame out . then do the reverse order with the rubber replaced just take it easy if you go that route - i did it that way in my 57 and it took me a lot less time to install -- good luck
p.s be carefull not to break off the pivot pin

Does the rubber seal snap into place or do you have to use adhesive?

After soapin it up it should just kind of snap in place. Push down on it real good till seated
