coil spring question

I bought some shorter coil springs, flip kit and shock extenders to lower my truck. Will I have to have coil spring compressors to take them off? Any help or advice on this?

Re: coil spring question

i got mine out without using any but it will just take a lot of prying and a lot of patience. just be careful they can shoot out like a rocket if you get em wedged in to much.

Re: coil spring question

I didn't use any, but I did loop a chain (loosely) through it, so that if it did fire out to try and kill me, the looped chain would hold it. It didn't try to kill me. Probably didn't need the chain, but I like my teeth in my mouth, not scattered across the floor.

Place a jack under the ball joint so when you pop it free, the control arm doesn't fly out of the way and fire the spring at you. Then you can lower the arm with the jack (I force it down further with my foot), which will drop easier with the sway bar ends disconnected.

Shorter springs usually install easier.

Re: coil spring question

You don't have to do any of that

jack the truck up by the frame so you stretch the suspension as far as it will go ( tires off the ground, with jack stands.

Put the jack under the lower control arm with about 1 inch slack so when you pop the ball joints loose, the jack will catch the lower control arm as the pressure of the spring releases. Then lower it down the rest of the way until the spring is free and relaxed. You might need to push down on the lower control arm to get the spring all the way out but at this point, it's completely safe, except for maybe a few busted knuckles, but that's just my patience.... BTW, if you have a sway bar, that will need to be UN-bolted as well as the shock....
