Another question!
I have gotten my 65 c60 in pretty good running shape, and have hauled a few loads with it and am quite happy with the old truck, I've started the body work and will try to have it painted before the summers over.
But I have gotten this truck I have been searching the internet for any and all information about the older c60 and I ran across a Green C50 that was made into a pickup, http://bangshift.com/blog/project-go...irestones.html I would LOVE to do this to a 64/65/66 c60 but my question would concern the rear end, My current truck does about 55 mph with the rear end that's in it, and for what I use the truck for that's fine, but If I built a "big" pickup I would want to be able to travel interstate speeds, is there a differential that will interchange with the older c60 that would give it better speed? I don't see the need for a 2 speed in a pickup since I probably would never haul anything other that me, the wife and my dog. The smaller c10 stuff is easy, I don't have enough knowledge about the bigger stuff and hadn't been able to find it on the net. anybody got any ideas?

Well, kind of like I suggested to someone just recently on here, I would call my local Chevy dealer and/or check into some old Chevy Parts Manuals to set if any higher gears are, or were ever, available.
If they are, you could try to order a set. If they were, but no longer avalable, you could try to find another rear in a junk yard with higher gears. The other alternative would be to swap out the rear to a newer one with higher gears. Then there is the alternative to possibly going with an OverDrive Trans, but as we were also recently talking, there seems to be no easy choice. By the way, I wouldn't mind a 2-Speed Rear at all in my Pick-up. Actually think it would be pretty cool. But, even though you have it in there, you could still choose not to use it. Bill

I know there were a few different ratios' available found this on chevyc60.com
http://www.chevyc60.com/the_rear_axle_page.htm lowest ratio in a 2 speed rear is 5:83-1, I'm not sure how to figure top speed with 900/20 tires. I would love to keep the 2 speed, it is alot of fun to play with!!!

Interesting link. I'm familiar with Burgie's trucks, but never knew he had such an imformative site.
It's now on my favorites. If you go to Stovebolt.com you will get some pretty good help there on the Ratios and Speeds that you are looking for. Check around for misc info, but click onto "Big Bolts" for specific help. Bill

I have 5.38:1 gears in Big Bertha with a 9r-22.5 tires. Running down the road in overdrive at 65mph its tacking around 2800 RPM. If you do not have overdrive you better stay around the 4.50:1 area or your motor will be screaming at 65mph. Try to find an old clark 5 speed tranny. I do not know much about the clark trannys but I do know not all the 5 speeds were an overdrive tranny so you would need to research to find out what one is the overdrive.

Mike, look at some military deuce and a half 5 speeds. Some were made with OD. Plus I'm pretty sure they should bolt to the chevy bellhousing too.
