Cheyenne vs cheyenne super door panels
I have parted a few 72 Cheyennes and have found them with scroll door panels and with woodgrain inserts. I know the factory brochure shows the cheyenne and super to have the woodgrain inserts. Can anyone contribute to what their experience is in this regard?

Re: Cheyenne vs cheyenne super door panels
They both use the same door panels, and inserts.

Re: Cheyenne vs cheyenne super door panels
I know one thing that can happen is that if the original woodgrain panels get scratched, dented or just badly visually deteriorated, I've seen them simply removed to leave the door panel by itself on.
I did this with a Cheyenne Super I had that suffered from 'bad woodgrain syndrome' LOL. I simply removed the panels and the ones behind were scroll which looked substantially better than the beat up woodgrain ones. (Plus, my wife hates that woodgrain stuff...) All Good Coley

Re: Cheyenne vs cheyenne super door panels
I have always thought the woodgrain was a Super only thing, however I have seen what appear to be original Cheyennes with woodgrain and without [scroll only]. My low option Cheyenne had no woodgrain and I am pretty sure the right side panel had never been removed, on a side note both my door panels were green that had been painted black, black listed on SPID.
This probably only adds to the confusion. |

Re: Cheyenne vs cheyenne super door panels
It actually pretty clear for 72.
Custom (base) are bare plastic door panels. Custom Deluxe/Highlander add chrome trim ring. Cheyenne and Cheyenne Super add the woodgrained insert behind the trim ring. So the Cheyennes have the wood door trim and Supers add the glove box and cluster bezel wood trim.

Technically speaking, the custom deluxe/highlander did not merely add a stainless trim ring to the door panel used on the custom. They used a different door panel with the scroll work. "Its actually pretty clear. " Posted via Mobile Device |

Re: Cheyenne vs cheyenne super door panels
Only '72 Chevy & GMC Customs had plain door panels. Chevy Custom Deluxe & GMC Super Custom had the scrolled panels. Chevy Cheyenne/Cheyenne Super & GMC Sierra/Sierra Grande had those same scrolled door panels with the added woodgrain inserts. There is very little difference between Cheyenne & Cheyenne Super or Sierra & Sierra Grande.

Re: Cheyenne vs cheyenne super door panels
I've never seen any deviations. All Cheyennes and Cheyenne Supers came with the woodgrain inserts. Many have been removed. I removed them in my '72 Sierra for a couple of reasons. 1- I think Sierras and Cheyennes look best without the woodgrain because the scroll matches the seat and there is no other woodgrain in the interior. 2- My interior was blue and brown woodgrain detracted from the appearance and it looked 10x better showing all blue and the scroll. Now it's saddle and I still like it w/o the woodgrain, even now that I've added the woodgrain dash pieces.
