Cleaning out fuel tank

I've got a 69 Chevy that I bought a couple of months ago. It had been sitting for a few years, and I had a lot of trouble getting it to run smooth, eventually I put on an edelbrock 750 carb and got the bugs smoothed out, but found another problem. All kinds of junk keeps plugging up my filter, it just keeps coming. It does it whether its low on fuel or has a full tank. Is there a good way to flush the system out? It has around 6-7 gallons in it right now if that makes a difference.

Re: Cleaning out fuel tank

Drain the tank and pull it.Put a piece of chain and some laundry soap in it.Tumble it around for a while. Then drain it and flush really well with water.Pull the sending unit when you remove the tank and tape it up with duct tape. After you get it as clean as you can check for leaks, with enough water in it to rust it may have pinholes. Then reinstall and add a bit of rubbing alcohol to the first fuel.Replace the rubber fuel lines and blow out the metal ones when the tank is clean ,before you put fuel in and start it.You'll be better off if you prime it to start. If there's that much debris, you may need a new fuel pump but you can try it with what you got.

You can't fix stupid, not even with duct tape.

Re: Cleaning out fuel tank

Take the tank to a radiator shop to have it "boiled" out.
