floor shifter removal
HI HOW DO YOU REMOVE THE FLOOR SHIFTER ON 1972 1/2 TON C 10 IT IS A 4 SPEED I REMOVED THE FLOOR BOOT , BUT DONT SEE HOW TO REMOVE IT LOOKS LIKE IT HAS A HOLLOW PIN THROUGH THE ROUND BALL THAT THE SHIFTER IS CONNECTED TO ANY HELP IS APPRECIATED STEVE

Make sure it's in neutral, then push down on the "ball" and turn counter clockwise a quarter turn and then lift the shifter straight up and out. Hope this makes sense to you

GM techs used to have a special tool, but I've seen guys do it with a big pair of channel locks. Sometimes I cut 5/8'' wide notch in a short 2x4 stud, about 1-1/2'' deep --push down and twist.

Same premise but the easiest way is to put a large screw driver in the corner of the retainer (where it makes the 90* turn) then smack it downward and counter clockwise at about a 45 degree angle. Pops right out that way. This is the way I have alwasy done them. Use a screwdriver with a good blunt tip.
