Thumbs down 67-68 Standard & Cowl hoods are Junk

UPDATE
We how have as of Jan. 3rd 2017 the 67-68 stock style hoods available from all new tooling and these actually fit correctly. We will have the 67-68 cowl hoods available later in 2017

In the past we had problems with the curvature of the edges of the hoods not matching the fenders which could be resolved by doing pie cut slices on edge underneath to then pull them into alignment before tacking in place. These hoods have gone from being workable to achieve a great fit to PURE TRASH in our opinion now.
So we will no longer offer the 67-68 Standard or cowl hoods.
THERE IS ONLY 1 MANUFACTURER OF THE 67-68 STANDARD & COWL HOOD AND THEY ARE EXTREMELY POOR QUALITY. THESE HOODS ARE MADE TO LONG Front To Back Now, HAVE INCONSISTENT WIDTHS FRONT TO REAR, ROLLED EDGES ON EITHER SIDE OF HOOD CREATE A ROUNDED BODY LINE ON BOTH SIDES MAKING IT LOOK ALMOST LIKE A 2ND BODY LINE ON EDGE OF HOOD AND CURVATURE OF HOOD FROM FRONT TO REAR DOES NOT MATCH THE CURATIVE OF THE 1967 & 1968 FRONT FENDERS. SO WE WILL NOT SELL THIS HOOD
PLEASE BEWARE THE SUPPLIERS OF THIS HOOD ARE AWARE OF THE PROBLEMS AND ALL RETAILERS SELLING THIS HOOD ARE SELLING THE SAME PRODUCT SO BUYER BEWARE Email if you would like pictures of many of the problems these hoods have.
the manufacturer has been told repeatedly by their wholesale buyers of the problem and continue to state in reply to them there is none so the problems only getting worse.

Re: 67-68 Standard & Cowl hoods are Junk

Since I've already had 3 requests for the types of problems heres a few pics. You can see the that the hood positioned to far rear with zero clearance at cowl still extends 3/8" past the fenders, also look at the additional body line they created by rolling the hood edges creating a lifted curved crease on the edges, variance in width running along fenders as the hood hitting on either side at rear even though a OEM hood has a nice 5/16" gap on both sides. Then you also have to deal with the arch being wrong running along the length that was common prior that could be corrected by pie cutting the seam and push down then tacking the cuts with welds.
So guys honestly in my opinion if you want the 67-68 raised cowl look the only thing the 67-68 cowl hood is good for is to cut the raised cowl off and weld it to your original stock hood. You'll achieve a better look with a lot less work involved than trying to correct the reproduction hood for use.
No matter who you get this hood from it is only made by 1 manufacturer, and every hood they make is made in exactly the same way for every customer they sell to.

Got to respect a company that lets you know there is a problem with something they have been selling. I appreciate the heads up, means a lot in my book. Thanks, Fred

This is sad. Looks like my stock hood will be staying on my truck till something is done about this. Thanks for the heads up Paul!

Re: 67-68 Standard & Cowl hoods are Junk

I knew I wasn't crazy. Not sure if others have seen this problem, but along with the other crap mentioned,we had the vertical lines of the cowl induction at the cowl completely different on a truck. One side was about vertical and the other side was slanted back at the top about 15-20 degrees. I mean, can't they see?The hood doesn't have to be installed to see that.
Must be a language barrier with this stuff. I've been told by wholesalers they tell the manufacturer about problems, they acknowledge, and keep sending the same crap. Time to make this stuff back home. Screw them if they can't produce quality. We can!

Are the hood manufactures Tiwanese or are the hoods made by Tabcobodyparts.com in Cleveland Ohio who offer a cowl hood MADE IN THE USA for $449.75 ?

Tabco site is slightly misleading and a play on words, they state they make their own panels in the USA which is correct ""for the panels they make"" but everything they sell they DO NOT MAKE, they make some of the patch panels they carry but when it comes to entire body panels such as fenders , doors, hoods, etc... they are selling imported parts.
Paul Jr @ GMCPauls
NO they do not make the hood. ONLY 1 manufacturer that's located in Taiwan makes these and they've been told of the problem but just continue to ignore it.

Yep,Tabco is a patch panel company that's been around since before the body panels were being reproduced. Naturally they started selling the body panels once they were

Maybe you could get a picture of how his hood fits, that would be huge.

Re: 67-68 Standard & Cowl hoods are Junk

Those are made by AMD, they claim to have their own tooling that's just theirs. May be a good source as I'm looking at swapping to a 67 front clip. More research forthcoming.

And looking at the AMD site they show these as being TriPlus so seems to be a contradiction of facts....or BS

This really sucks. I wanted a cowl hood for my 68 but I don't want a poor fitting piece of junk.

I have an email into AMD requesting manufacturer information on the hoods they sell.

Re: 67-68 Standard & Cowl hoods are Junk

I asked AMD about their manufacturing, here was their reply:

Thanks for the email. All our truck hoods are made by TriPlus. The tooling for these hoods has been around for a number or years. To my knowledge, TriPlus supplies this same hood to everyone who sell it. I’m not aware of another tooling for this product.

We sold hundred with very few problems. That being said, you’re talking about a vehicle which is almost 50 years old. You should always expect some adjustments and body work when replacing any panel on a vehicle that old.

Thanks!

Re: 67-68 Standard & Cowl hoods are Junk

Dad just said that the new 67-68 stock & cowl hood tooling has been developed, the test fit of the stock hood was spot on but there were issues with the cowl hood fit. So it requires additional tweaking of tooling & assembly before released for production. No ETA or price has been announced yet for the company that will be bringing these to market as yet.

Nothing new as yet. After 5-6 years of complaining that there was a problem with them and finally dropping selling them all together I'm happy to wait until the fits JUST RIGHT
