transmission options

So with my truck getting closer to being road worthy and ive been trying to make the decisions for transmission. when i bought 2 1/2 ton truck it had the standard 20" rims and was a dually. now i have 3/4 4x4 axles under it with what i think if i remember are 3.73 gears. if im not looking to put a 4x4 tranny in yet will the current 4 spd be able to turn my new axles and get up to the speed limit if i have 37" ?? and as always thanks for the help guys

Re: transmission options

What transmission do you have? If you have the SM420 it is strong enough. 3:73 may be a bit steep for 37s but the 420 has a super low first 7.somthing to one. That's why they are popular with the jeep guys myself included.

Re: transmission options

i dont know what i have for a transmission. im assuming its whatever came in the original 49 2.5 ton truck. I wont be able to look closer at it til i get back this weekend. it does have a PTO drive coming off the tranny ran to the back of the cab if that means anything. i know that the 235's have good torque so i dont think my motor will be as big a problem as the tranny will be
