Big Block Operating Temperature Question
Is 225 degrees F. too high as a normal operating temperature for a 454 Big Block engine?

That seems a little high to me. Mine stayed around 180-190 in the summer.

I had a chevy dealer tell me the norm for a 454 was 210 degrees. I had a 90 chevy dually 1 ton with a 454 i thought was running hot so i changed the thermo and flushed the cooling system and nothing changed so I asked them and thats what they said.

I'm with Kaos, I keep mine @ 180. But when I pull something it tends to run 195-200 .
Most fuel injected engines fuel & timing maps are based around 210. I'm probably wrong but I think a thermostat over 195 for a carb engine is too hot |
