Cab Mounts - Poly or Rubber?
I Posted this in the Suspension area as well. Wasn't sure where would be best, so I'm doing both places.
I have heard mix reviews about what type of cab mounts to use, either poly or rubber. I would like to bring this up again. Would like your thoughts and/or experiences with the poly. Someone said they squeek. But someone else said they don't if you use the grease it comes with. Well my kit didn"t come with any grease so I'm wondering now if I want to use them. Won't be doing any major offroading with this vehicle. Does it make the ride noticably rougher? Would like to use the poly because they are supposed to be the best. Your thoughts please. My truck is a 70 Chevy 4x4 1/2 ton. Thanks |

I replaced my rubber ones w/ poly about 2 years ago I used bearing grease have had no problems and really have not noticed any squeaks. Made a big difference in the feel of the truck.

I kept the drivetrain. Body/bad and chassis are gone. 1981 K30, 350/465/205 dana 60 and dually 14 bolt. Has a G80, and a flat bed. Going to replace the flat bed. 1985 K20, 350/400/208 10 bolt and SF 14 bolt. I wonder where I can find some 1 tons. Hmmmmm |

One more thing I plan on replacing my motor, tranny and TC mounts w/ poly also.

While we are on the subject, what is a good source (<$) for body mounts. I need a set for my burb and the catalog I have lists them for $220 without hardware. Surely there is a cheaper deal out there....

I have always heard, keep the poly on the suspension, and rubber for the body. The poly will affect the way your truck will drive and feel. If you go poly on the body, will will have no "give" and will be rough on the body it's self, and make the ride in your truck rougher than it needs to be! The orginal body mounts lasted 30+ years, another set of replacement rubber mounts should do the same.

What did you mean when you said it made a big difference in the ride of the truck? Did it ride better or stiffer? |

Poly vs Rubber
I replaced all my body & suspension rubber with poly about 5yrs ago. I did them all at the same time so I can't tell you what it's like having rubber body mounts and poly suspension. I can tell you that the truck rides and handles more positively ( less body role or sway in corners ) It is stiffer but I don't think that it was a huge differance. ( after 5yrs and ??? of how many beers, my memmory isn't quite that sharp ) I did grease mine and have no squeaks. I did have to do some shimming on the front cab mounts to get the fenders to line up with the cab.
All in all I like them, but that's just my opinion. Gary |

70nut, It felt firmer, I'm not sure how to describe it. You will notice a little more road vibration. I guess you could say tighter. Like what custom10 said.
