Re: overdrive transmission

Either one of those transmissions if set up properly will do the job for you. The 4L60 E is basically the electronic version of the 700R4. The 700R4 does not need a computer to run but the 4l60 E does. There are a lot of board members that have been running 700R4's trouble free for many years and there are some that have blown up 2 and 3 of them. My research tells me a 700R4 has to be set up properly for trouble free driving.

Re: overdrive transmission

Just like he said, if they r built right and setup correct they r very good trans. The 7R4 was considered a 4L60 the last coupla years and the 4L60 E was introduced in late 91/2 and it needs a computer to run.I put a 4L60 in my 69 behind a stout 327 and wish I would of done it sooner no comparison to the TH-350 I had in it.Really woke it up on the street and its nice to cruise 80 mph at 2400 RPM BABY JUST PURRS down the blacktop

Re: overdrive transmission

I have one of each manual and electronic.

The electronic is by far the most desirable, but it comes with a price.

The difference is day and night by the way it shifts and when it shifts up and down, and it is programmable if you are so inclined.

I was hesitant when building the 53 because of the cost of the Compushift and the cost of the transmission, but that has all healed and I am very glad I went that route
.
The 700R4 will do what you want, there is just a big difference, I guess you will get what you pay for.
