blast from the past!
So, I stumbled onto photos from the Chicago Auto Show from years past, and these images were included. I dig the SS truck!
... also, does anyone make a modern version of these super-cool, ultra-thin whitewall tires, with the stripe out near the edge of the tire? Hmmm... |

Re: blast from the past!
What the... ?!?!?!
"A special exhibit at the 1979 Chicago Auto Show featured a prototype Chevrolet Corvette from Pasadena-based California Custom Coach. The four-door, four-passenger sports car featured a 30-inch longer wheelbase, dual t-tops, and deep dish wire wheels. A reported two years and $200,000 was invested in the development of the Corvette "America." In 1980, five copies were assembled and listed for $37,500 each." They spent money developing that, and five people actually wanted this enough to buy one? |

Re: blast from the past!
Wonder what ever happened to the SS? Great if someone had some info on the board about it too.

Re: blast from the past!
Had a friend in HS with a '69 Javelin. It was a fun little car. 290 4-sp was quick enough to get into trouble.

Re: blast from the past!
Great article written by one of the great Chevy truck experts, Seth Doulton. He used to be a contributor to the "pickups and panels in print" magazine. He nailed the 50 th down, just a color that was offered that year on non-base models with a few interior exclusives, not a super rare edition by any means, especially compared to a factory golden cameo "SS pickup".

Re: blast from the past!
Those are probably Goodyear Bluestreaks and the stripes wire blue. There were some whitewalls made that way for a short short time, redwalls, too. I talked ti Diamondback Classics and they will make those.
