Smog/air pump removal on 87 350
I want to remove the air pump and associated plumbing from my 87 350 1/2 ton. There are tubes on both sides that that go in behind the engine by the exhaust manifolds and I really can't see where they go and what is involved in removing them. Can anyboby tell me what is involved in removing these? Or maybe a picture. Everything else looks pretty straight foward.
I removed this from a 94 LT1 and had to fabricate a plate to plug a hole on the rear of the intake after I removed the smog plumbing. Just wonding if this would be a similar problem? thanks |

Seems pretty straight forward. Is there a problem with your smog pump that you want to remove it?

Re: Smog/air pump removal on 87 350
It does seem straight forward and I don't see any major problems. Other than I cannot see what is involved in removing/plugging the 2 tube ends that that are located behind the engine that I cannot see. I was hoping someone has some experience with this or had a picture showing these tubes. Nothing wrong with the system, but I want to replace the headers and wanted to get all of this removed prior installing them.

My 87 305 did not have an air pump. Was this a 5.7 only thing?

Should be pretty straightforward and no fabricating should be needed. Plumbing should wrap around the back of the intake and up to the pump..
On a side note, I may be interested in your manifolds and the plumbing. PM me when you have it off and can send some pics if your interested in selling... |

Re: Smog/air pump removal on 87 350
I still remember the day and joy of getting that pump off and throwing in trash....it was disconnected for years anyway and my exhaust tubes had long since rotted away to be plugged at the manifolds. YAY
