Re: 73/87 model kits

Here are a couple of mine. Have many built square models just not pictures of all of them. The first is a AMT Fall Guy reissue with a 88-98 Sportside bed. The black one is a AMT Sod Buster (I think?) kit from the 80’s. Both are basically from the same AMT tooling.

I built this one about 5 years ago

I build this one about 20 years ago

Square wrecker kit

Not a square but a cool ’72 K5 I built about 10 years ago. This is an old AMT kit as well.

The exhaust that came with the kit was pretty sucktastic so I made exhaust pipe out of aluminum rods

Re: 73/87 model kits

This started out as a short bed with a snow plow, made the bed longer and painted it just like mine.

Re: 73/87 model kits

If you search ebay for these it hurts your feelings lol Almost any other era truck can be had for 20-25 bucks. Want a square body? Nah that will be 80 bucks plus shipping

Re: 73/87 model kits

the '84 gmc/deserter is about the only decent kit being made right now, and it's not too expensive (unless ya live north of the border...) it's one of my all time favs, good to see it come back, cause the prices were getting stupid on the old '84 gmc ones- bite it ebay!
and for pretty much any other old square- hate to say, prices ARE getting retarded.....for a plastic toy....
if accuracy means nothing, revell has the snowplow truck. in my opinion, like most revell chevy's, their ( i'll be nice...) pretty lame, would'nt waste my money a second time on one....

Not at all true

That is correct.... more or less. The exception is you can expect to pay the most for a 67-72 kit. Prices on current issue kits, which are reproductions, are level retail... with a bit of fluctuation between resellers.

Re: 73/87 model kits

The 73-87 kit I liked the best back in the day was the MPC 1978 Step Side:

https://www.modelroundup.com/product-p/mpc-7814.htm

It was only around a year or two before the kit was changed to a 4X4. The later 4X4 was a great kit too. You can see the original issue goes for big money these days. I hope Round 2 reissues it one day.
