MPGs
Okay Guys this might just sound like pointless questions because I know driving one of these makes it obvious you don't give 2 craps about your MPGs but...
I figure I'm getting around 10-12 MPG with a stock 350 crate and a tb400 trans. how many MPGs should I expect to get after getting a mild cam and a high rise intake?

Re: MPGs
9.5 to 12 usually. Mine is a 3/4 ton and 4.10 rear gears.

Re: MPGs
What are the specs of your truck?
I get 10-13 out of my 3/4 ton 4.11 geared truck, and I have a motor that is frankly DOA. If I rebuilt what I have I am sure I would get 15 pretty consistently with the way I drive, and if I swap my 10.5 for a 9.5 14 bolt with 3.42 gears. It will be a lot better as I can drive a bit faster with better economy, and not set back my hauling capacity. |

Re: MPGs
I have had a 73 454/400, 76 350/350, and current 83 454/4spd granny - all 3/4 ton with 4:10 rear axle. All got 9-11 city and 13-14 hwy driving with no load.
Most of the many new trucks I have owned in recent years have been 4.8 or 5.3 with 3:42 or 3:73 - they got 15.5 city/18.5 hwy, so if you ever get 15 city with your truck I think that would be excellent -but without modern fuel injection I don't think you will do better than 13-14 city. Or, buy a new 2014 truck and get 18 city/23 hwy. |
