Upgrading column shifter to Lokar ??

Im replacing my TH350 with a 700R and Ive gathered up a few other related parts to swap out. I picked up a Lokar column shifter linkage but I hadnt noticed the truck has some type of a bracket that sits in the frame.

I dont have the truck at home at the time so i cant go outside to look at it. Just wondering if anyone has any pics of their install ??

Thanks guys

Re: Upgrading column shifter to Lokar ??

You won't use the stock linkage bracket. The lokar mounts to the tranny to the shifter linkage on the column, you will need to bend the bend the shifting rod to fit.

Re: Upgrading column shifter to Lokar ??

I recently installed a Lokar aca-1800 shift linkage in my 72 swb stepside with 700r4. I didnt have to bend or modify it in any way. You will not use any of the stock parts.

I dont have any photos of my install, but it looks just like the photo on the ebay listing here:

Yea. This is exactly what I have. From what I could remember. It's a straight shot down to the tranny from the column.
Would like to see pics of other installs if possible.
Thanks wide side.

Re: Upgrading column shifter to Lokar ??

I don't have this installed on my truck so I don't know for sure how it should be installed.

I would assume that leddzepp didn't crawl under his truck to take photos with it any other gear than park. So it should be safe to assume that his in the correct position in posts 7 and 8.

Yea you're probably right. I noticed up at the shifter tab he came up from below with the bolt. That would change the angle slighty compared to how I did mine. Will report back when i get it cut/fine tuned.

Re: Upgrading column shifter to Lokar ??

Ended up using the same orientation as leddzepp. Didn't need to bend rod and cut off about 1/2 ". Really nice product with good instructions.

Very nice. Let me know how it works because I am planning on using the same kit in my truck.

Re: Upgrading column shifter to Lokar ??

Maybe a stupid question, but what's wrong with using the stock linkages? When I replaced my TH400 with a 700R4, the stock linkages lined right up.

Re: Upgrading column shifter to Lokar ??

Chvy2NV, I am thinking of using one of the Lokar kits on my 70. For $60 they seem like a great deal to end a headache. Have you installed yours yet? What type of column do you have? Do headers get in the way?

Has anyone headaches/tips to share other than those in this post? (not trying to hijack)

Nothing wrong with using the old parts. I just figured I'd replace hem with new parts.

Actually no. I haven't gotten into the whole trans swap yet. Sorry I wasn't able to help.

Re: Upgrading column shifter to Lokar ??

My 1969 is a manual 3 speed on the column,
Can i purchase the same lokar*aca-1800 shift linkage kit and run my new 700r4 with the factory column/ shifter arm in place????

Or does the lokar kit only work on trucks that were column shift automatics??
Thats where im getting confused.
We converted my 1949 ford from 3 speed manual to an AOD and ran it through the stock column and shift arm so I would think it would be doable on this truck, but figure id check with guys with more experience

My advice is to buy the lokar kit and try it with the 3spd column. If it wont work then look for an oem auto column.

Re: Upgrading column shifter to Lokar ??

Lokar question.

Does this look like the correct starting angle? The 700r4 is in park and when it's in 1st gear it's at the same orientation just down 90 degrees.
