Ignition help needed
Having an issue that maybe someone can help me with...
87, 305 TBI motor... Isn't getting fuel to the injectors. Yesterday I ran the codes (none) Checked pressure from the fuel pump (about 12PSI) Checked fuses on the panel I replaced the Ignition control Module this morning and it fired right up... drove it half a mile to a friends place, no issues... Went to head home and it won't start again. Still no codes, pulled the control module off and checked the connections, all seems well... Still not getting any fuel to the injectors... I'm not sure where to turn next Any help would be appreciated. Cheers Taylor

Re: Ignition help needed
Silly question: Did you use the supplied white "grease" when you installed the new module.
Second, what brand of module did you get? The inexpensive aftermarket are notorious for failing early. |

Re: Ignition help needed
I used the grease on the metal plate that contacts the distributor. I bought the Duralast option... not the cheapest.
Would it fail that quickly? Less than mile of driving? Could something be frying it?

Re: Ignition help needed
Whenever possible, use the OEM. I do know that isn't always possible, so your next best bet would be from NAPA.
It could fry within a mile, but even the cheapest will probably last longer than that. Other factors that can cause a module to die prematurely are a bad/going bad coil, and a bad pickup coil in the distributor can fry them as well. |

Re: Ignition help needed
My ignition coil is an MSD thats about a year old.
There was a little corrosion under the distributor cap where the rotor makes contact with the 8 metal sleeves under the cap. Maybe I need to look into the pickup coil in the distributor. Quote:
