headers:
Hello all,
Was wondering does anyone have some part no's for different makes of 1 3/4 tube headers that will fit my 71 C-10 with a 406 small block with a auto transmission? It has been lowered 3" in the front. Was worried long tubes would hit the pavement... Thanks Posted via Mobile Device |

Re: headers:
WELCOME from another Noob!
FYI. The header primary tube sizes found, like industry standard 1-1/2", and optional 1-5/8" 1-7/8" for small blocks create small HP increases and in some cases with larger tubes and a not so high performance built engine, torque losses, or some peaking at much higher RPM. The largest primary tubes develop improved HP and sometimes torque numbers at High RPM and High Flow Rates. If you are building a truck for Bonneville 150-200 MPH or a truck that will spend considerable time at 8,000 RPM, then by all means the larger primary tubes are the way to go. A moderate built 350- 425 HP small block, in a truck will perform better, in most street driving applications with 1-1/2" primary headers as better torque will be available at lower RPMs seen in daily driving. Finishing the last Stock LS2 crate motor I did, it was advertised specs at 400 HP and 402 Ft./ Lbs of torque (flywheel). I custom built long tube headers with 1-1/2" primary tubes into 3 inch conventional collectors, much the Howls of disbelief of my fellow motor-head friends. On the Dyno after 1000 miles break-in, with a Stock Tune the LS2 made 362 RWHP and about 372 Ft/Lbs of torque (Calced about 425+ flywheel HP) but most remarkable the Peak Torque RPM Numbers moved Down from 5200 RPMs to 4400 RPMs. Much better Street performance. Food for thought, less expensive headers, better street performance Apologies for the long post

Re: headers:
Headman 69010 are 3/4 length w 1 5/8" primaries. These are only 198 at summit. Will work good for the 406

Re: headers:
I like the jet-coated Sandersons Z10 posted.
In Arizona in the Summer 115 temps a set of long tube headers running close to an unprotected starter can cause it to heat sink. Stop your vehicle and it won't start again until the starter cools off enough (pour your bottled water on it, or shield it) Look at Z10s picture, see the motor on the stand. Great starter clearance and you wouldn't have to drop the headers to service the starter in the future. and great under truck ground clearance for lowered trucks Z10 what's the price for those (Coated)?

Re: headers:
The pics are of a ZZ4 crate motor with angle plugs.
So yes, the CC11 part number is the one you want. Posted via Mobile Device

Re: headers:
As long as you have factory profiled heads, the 69020 will work well if you are looking for ground clearance. If you need a full length header, 69090 is another choice. These also come in ceramic coated and Elite options. Sanderson and Thorley also make a good header. They are competition but I can't argue with quality. I would tell you to avoid one company that was mentioned here but I don't want to call anyone out.

Re: headers:
Ditto on the cc11s. Great headers. You have to specify angle plugs when ordering as the require special dimpling.

Re: headers:
I had a set of Hookers that were a constant pain....always developing leaks and the way the tubes were routed, it was a nightmare tightening #2 and #4 cylinders.
