Pick my cam!!!!!!!!
83 lwb 355 2wd 700r4 2200 stall converter.
i had this lunati voodoo cam and wiped a lobe and lifter so.... •Advertised Duration (Int/Exh): 268/276 •Duration @ .050 (Int/Exh): 227/233 •Gross Valve Lift (Int/Exh): .489/.504 •LSA/ICL: 110/106 •Valve Lash (Int/Exh): Hyd/Hyd •RPM Range: 1800-6200 i want something to get my big heavy truck up and moving. i dont race or intend to, and stock sucks. i like a nice aggressive idle.... i dont have power brakes....or a/c, and i like performance. i have a dual plane intake and a edelbrock carb..... 1....2.....3.......GO!

Re: Pick my cam!!!!!!!!
Are you posting the specs of the cam you have, or the one you are thinking of?

Re: Pick my cam!!!!!!!!
What's your setup on your current motor for carb intake exhaust heads and such? That cam should be good for close to 400hp with a good combo motor . Now that you've wiped a lobe or two your bearings are also trashed in the motor and oil pump as well. Wouldn't be a bad idea to re ring and bearing the motor for good measure.
Also run zinc additive from now on. Keep that from happening again Posted via Mobile Device

Re: Pick my cam!!!!!!!!
The thumper cam was still bigger than the 268 cam from lunati
You need some 3:73 gears and a 3000 stall converter and I hope that 700r4 is built tough 1.6 ratio rockers will add more duration as they lift. From what I saw in your build thread the air gap is a good intake. The heads look like later lt1 heads I think. What's the compression of the engine? You need about 9.5:1 before any cam will start magic. Somone is bound to tell you this but...vortec heads. Really a great way to add another 50hp Look up bullet cams and fill out their recommendation sheet honestly and they can get you a nice ultradyne cam grind that will max out your combo Posted via Mobile Device

Re: Pick my cam!!!!!!!!
Wow! Thanks for the responses guys! I think I am just going to put in my comp thumpr cam (12-600-4) in since its just laying around... Also thinking of maybe putting some roller rockers on? Is that a good idea?

Re: Pick my cam!!!!!!!!
Meatwagon are you saying how the thumper is a bad cam? Please explain your cam experience with thumprs
1.6 rockers are good make sure your valve springs can handle the lift and duration. Make sure you have at least a 2500 stall for this cam. It's designed after a few circle track cams so the torque hits hard about then and peaks around 6k. Not a drag cam but great on corners and the street. Keeps my vacuum for brakes and drives happy as a clam on the street and plenty of power when your on it. Not a slug by any means at low rpm still wastes tge tires easily even at a roll. but def stronger past 2500. I will see about throwing up a vid. Posted via Mobile Device

Re: Pick my cam!!!!!!!!
Really a bigger cam with more lift and duration runs stronger?
I have 1.6 1.52 staggered rockers on my engine. Not to be rude or anything but maybe your engine combo just sucke for that cam? The magnum cams have a slower profile on the lobes which is why they are better at torque. The thumpr has the xe profile. Both magnum and xe have profiles I don't like. But for a daily driver engine the cam works great. Not a race engine and sure I can get 10-15 more hp/tq from another grind but it won't do what this one can Posted via Mobile Device

My money is your gearing is bad and the edelbrock is killing it. And if the engine doesn't have flat tops then prob low on compression Posted via Mobile Device

Re: Pick my cam!!!!!!!!
That cam is pretty healthy and should be matched to the rear gears and torque converter to run right. I wouldn't fault the cam or cam mfg for the failure, oil isn't what it used to be and will kill a flat tappet cam without additives.

Re: Pick my cam!!!!!!!!
Yah I didn't like the big block numbers. An I put the rockers in cause I knew that would fix the cam to where it needed to be. Just the small thumpr looked good to me the others were odd.
