Corvette Wheels

Converting my 6 lug to 5 so I can run Corvette wheels on my 69 C10 Step. Specifically the ZR1 2005-2013 black wheels! Any reason why after a swap these bad boys in 18"/19" or 19"/20" wouldn't work out? Let me know if you have any experience with this or have seen it done.

Re: Corvette Wheels

5 lug truck pattern is 5 on 5"

5 lug car pattern is 5 on 4.75"

Make sure the lug pattern is correct before doing the swap

X2

The wheel will fit per say for the right lug pattern but will the back spacing be correct for the wheel to work in a truck setup.
Backspacing and such?

After talking to tech support at Air Lift I have found out that the kit I need is 60811. Per the measurements I gave them. Ride height of truck inside spring and inside diameter of springs.

Re: Corvette Wheels

Turns out the ZR1 wheels are a 5 x 4.75. My brakes are a 6x5.5 setup but not yet on the truck. Im going to try and swap for a 5x5 set (those are the only 2 options). Apparently I'll need a spacer. Is one of these 6x5.5 or 5x5 a better option to use a spacer on? A new/modified rear end may be an option. Completely in the dark on this. I will have these damn ZR1 wheels!!!!

Re: Corvette Wheels

I keep reading a lot of discussion on this issue of lug pattern, many are opinions or recollections. Here's What I know; I just bought spindles complete (disc brakes rotors & calipers) that I personally removed off of a 1975 Chevy C10 1/2 pickup at U-Pick it (saw and measured several Chevys through 79 also, same thing). I also took out the complete 10 bolt GM Rear-end, including the drum brakes, everything. The Lug Pattern is in fact 5 on 4-3/4" or as some state it 5 on 4.75, same thing.

This 5 on 4-3/4" pattern corresponds to a Huge number of cars and light trucks over a lot of years consequently; there are a large selection of wheels, styles, applications, back spacing available. I'm running "Old Style" Corvette rallys 15 X 10 and they are "Dual Patterned" for 5 on 4.75 and 5 on 5, I bought them brand new from Summit.

The guys are Right, many old trucks are the typical 6 lug pattern, But they're also Right that many, many Trucks around Today are 5 on 5" as that is the late model truck patterns most frequently used today.

Bottom Line, although it would be nice if there was a simple, hard & fast Rule of Thumb to go by, there isn't so Just Measure to be sure.

Re: Corvette Wheels

All '73-87 5 lug (2WD) Chevy and GMC trucks are 5x5. The only 5 x 4.75 are on S10 pickups and Blazers. I have never seen the small pattern on a regular 1/2 ton pickup. The B-body cars from 72-96 do vary (particularly after '76). Some are 5x5 and some are 5x4.75. That is where a lot of people make assumptions and go wrong assuming they are all large lug pattern and they are not. My .02

Re: Corvette Wheels

Besides the lug pattern difference the Corvette offsets specifically the C6 ZR1 offsets are quite different. Front is +56 Rear is +36.

C10's have either a 0 offset or a negative offset. This means that outside of the wheel edge will be significantly moved inboard. Even if you got lugs to fit you would need a 2" spacer at minimum to get the wheels to clear. The wheels of these trucks are already inset too far IMHO. You will also have the same problem with the rear end but not as drastically.

If you definitely want the look of the C6 ZR1 wheels you might have to go the custom route.

Re: Corvette Wheels

I believe a few of the aftermarket wheel vendors make 6 lug vette rallies for our pre-71 trucks. Stockton wheel is an example http://www.stocktonwheel.com/smoothie.html and I confirmed they make the car rally in 6x5.5. As for Stockton itself, i'd shop around, their service hasn't been the best in my experience, however, a wheel is a wheel... can't screw that up too much. But all this changing around to increase wheel selection might not be necessary - if you want car rallies on your truck, you can have them by just buying the correct wheel and go from there - no spindle/wheel/etc mods required. If you are swapping to a disk front xmember, they have them in the 71 and newer 5 lug bolt patterns also.

They do. I run them on my truck, but I think the OP is looking at C6 wheels. I have smoothie bowtie caps on them now, look much cooler than the derbys I was running.

Cool Re: Corvette Wheels

Some of the larger GM cars run the 5x5 lug pattern but not every year. The older big Impala's and station wagons and such. As far as the Corvette wheels they were all 4.75 pattern.
None of the bigger truck patterns are 4.75 to my knowlegde. As stated s-10 pattern is the 4.75. 6 lugs were for 4x4 only after 1971 I think on the trucks. Well until the last couple of years. U can buy aftermarket wheels but then again your back spacing is going to be the problem unless u use spacers are have a set of custome wheels made.

Re: Corvette Wheels

Why not get adapters? They are already like spacers and you get the right bolt pattern for much cheaper than changing axles etc...? And if you don't like them just take em off.

I did this same thing (.. or really close with 95 style ZR1 wheels) on an S10 back in 95/96. It looked sick man, and the truck handled like it was on rails. 4.3, ZQ8 suspension, etc. The only problem is I ran the adapters. It was impossible to get the wheels balanced. It felt like the wheels were coming off 95% of the time. I put 6k miles on it like this and sold the truck. It looked incredible man, ..but it was a major pain in the arse to get it driveable.

Good luck to you whatever you decide.

Re: Corvette Wheels

Dumb Question probably, but if I go the adapter route, which I'll have to space it out anyways because the offset in the wheel well vs. the deep SR1 Wheels can I still use 6 Lug rotors?????? That would make my life 100x easier...so Im guessing no haha

pffffft... you can find anything nowadays in 10 seconds with google:

For the record, I'm not a fan of spacers/adapters, ect... seen one break off before and "heard stories"... just sayin...

Re: Corvette Wheels

Speaking from experience man, my vote is to save yourself some money and headaches and just look for another wheel option.

But, I will tell you I sat my S10 on a jack stand at exactly ride height. (Diameter on my tires /2 and measured from center to the garage floor. Took 5 pieces of 3/8 fuel line cut about 4" long and slid each piece over the existing wheel stud. This will create a simulated wheel spacer. Then sit your Corvette wheel against the ends of your 'spacer'.. ( the fuel line ) and see how it sits in the fender well. If its out too far, cut a 1/4 off and try again..

My spacers on my s10 were something like 3.25" in the rear and 2.5" in the front. I ran 17x9.5 corvette wheels on it .. (93-96 fan type) and it looked really good but I just couldn't get it to balance.

My spacers were custom built. $600+ .. billet, ordered them out of Cali .. I forget the name of the place.

It looked great but it was VERY costly for me and I guess what I'm saying is yes its possible and you could do it.. but I just don't think you should do it. Its a lot of hassle .. really.

Wink Re: Corvette Wheels

I put a set of Camaro wheels on my son's s-10 with spacers only. 2" & 3" and haven't had any problems. Truck looks great and rides just fine. They have been on the truck for a few years worth since he has bought tires once for it since we installed the wheels.
Sorry no pictures because the albumn board is down right now.
