Flex Fan Spacer. Are you running one?
Hey, all.
Looking to get flex fan and I'm not sure what size spacer I should order, if at all. Just looking to see if anyone here is running one and what size spacer you used. I have '71 c10 2WD, Gen. I 350, factory belt set up. Thank you. Seth |

Re: Flex Fan Spacer. Are you running one?
Before you decide for sure to run a flex fan, talk to a few people who have (had) them and then also do a search here on the board for "flex fan". You may just change your mind. In my opinion, for what that is worth, those things are a shrapnel loaded bomb just waiting to go off. Stick with a stock GM metal blade fan or go the electric fan route. Again, just my .02 cents

Re: Flex Fan Spacer. Are you running one?
^^ What he said, not only a time bomb but one that doesn't cool nearly as well as a clutch fan or a good electric setup. I know, not the answer you were looking for.... I ran a flex fan once, temporarily. Never again.

Re: Flex Fan Spacer. Are you running one?
as they said use my vary I have one with the spacer has over 200,000 miles on it (not sure when or how but only has 3 of the 4 bolts) and works good but watch the fingers when you install man those things are like razor blades. if I had the fund's I would go aluminum radiator and all electric though.

Re: Flex Fan Spacer. Are you running one?
I wished that I had pic's of the damage to my jeep, from one of those fans. Aluminum radiator, shroud, hoses, and a freshly painted one piece fiberglass front end, ALL JUNK!

Re: Flex Fan Spacer. Are you running one?
I've seen an alternator pulley come of before and went threw the hood but not a fan that would definitely be some nasty carnage. Guess I've just been lucky pretty sure mine is some el cheapo we bought when we converted truck to v8.

Re: Flex Fan Spacer. Are you running one?
I had a flex fan lose one blade while passing a truck on the highway turning 4500 rpm.
Had a 3" long by 1/4 inch wide louvre in my new paint job. Went right thru the hood brace and the hood skin. And don't use a spacer like that one in the pic. They flex. Get a solid one. |

See post #16. The HP loss is huge with these. You are SO much better off with a good clutch fan or better yet switch to electric.

Re: Flex Fan Spacer. Are you running one?
Thanks for all the advice guys! I'll stick my trusty clutch fan until I have the bank for a nice electric fan set up.
