Question about my 1971chevy truck k20 - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

I bought my 1968 chevy truck k20 and it came with a 71 k20 also I got the vin plate and the title also. My question is if the vin tag is from a different truck it has no glove box so I can't look up the spid card the truck has been painted once so my question if the vin plate do people remove it to paint a truck? The cab appears to be a k20 cab has cab lights with the humps for the cab lights in the roof. The frame is all 3 /4 ton it has v8 motor mounts in it also the truck was also a standard at one point because there is a hole in the cab where the couch linkage was I also have a manual steering Column that came with it I have all the parts for it here's the truck and vin is ke24IT601076

Just curious does the VIN (number) on the VIN plate match the number on the driver side frame rail? Do not remove the VIN plate to paint. Use a chemical stripper in that area the mask the VIN plate before painting.

No, there is apartial vin stamped on the top of the frame near the steering box

It's no big deal if it doesn't match. DMV only cares about VIN plate on cab. But since you mentioned that the cab did not have a glove box door and SPID.....I just mentioned it. Curious as to if that cab came on that frame.

Are you saying you have the title for the truck pictured and the VIN is KE241T601076?

If you have the title, it shouldn't be a problem registering it regardless of what the frame rail is or anything else. It's all about the cab, the VIN plate and the title.

You can put 1972 fenders, hood and grill on it and turn it into a 2wd shortbed and still register it as a K20 if that is what the VIN plate and title read.

frame numbers should match the VIN plate.

The numbers in the frame are stamped in the frame itself. You may have crud or rust to remove. I thought on one of mine they were actually stamped on the front frame horn too I believe
