bolt on 4 link coilover??

84 c10 long bed currenty with 4" drop shackle hanger

Been looking at performanceonline bolt on 4link(pic). Also see brothers seems to carry the same one. Does anyone have any reviews on it. Rob at nolimit carries the fatbar coilover but seems to be a complete weld on. Does he offer a bolt on? Both pol & brothers have the coilovers mounted inward. While nolimit mounts on outside up an down. Any advantages??

Re: bolt on 4 link coilover??

Doesn't really appear bolt on to me.
The coilovers are so close together,... that the link bars would have to be mounted inboard of the frame rails.
If that's the case,... the front link bar brackets are backwards in that picture.
Shock bridge and axle tube mounts are weld-on.

Looks to be for a "pro-street" set-up only.
Step notched frame would have to be built.
Wth the low hanging 4-link bars,... I assume a pretty tall ride height would be the end results with a 31"-33" tall rear tire.

Re: bolt on 4 link coilover??

I know the axle brackets need be welded. Guess I meant with least amount of welding. An from pol n brothers said it mounts on the outside. Think the pic just makes it look close together. Hope someone is able give a review or Rob comes in an gives some input. This is a dail driver with spirited driving an going track once in awhile when done. Right now its on 17" tt2s on 28tire.

Re: bolt on 4 link coilover??

It looks low to me. The shock extenders are located directly under the axle so its less likely to get caught up. kp sells a complete bolt in 4 link just not with coil overs

How you feel about air bags?Ridetech has a nice bolt in 4 link kit for the rear.If your heart set on a 4 link and coilovers get one welded in,Both scotts hot rods and nolimit have nice weld in kits.

Ride Techs rear 4-bar kit can prob utilize their coil-overs too.

Re: bolt on 4 link coilover??

Ima make a call to nolimit and ask about there fatbar coilover kit. See if they have a bolt on with minium welding. If not I'll go ahead an try pol. Not trying to go over $1300 would also like to buy set of rims

POL's stuff is usually manufactured by others w/the middle-man mark-up. It looks like their kit is No Limits w/a mark-up (read the tech text for each).

KP Components (a chris alston company now) also makes a bolt-in 4-link (part of the 6-link set-up & can be purchased separately). You'd just have to do the weld-on mounts for the coil-overs....

Re: bolt on 4 link coilover??

Scotti i did check kp stuff out the other day. But after having to peice all the parts together , kit, panhard bar an coilover. Felt wasnt worth it. But i did like how it mounted to the axel. If i ever wanted to return to stock it be simple to take off.
I did call nolimit an may go with them. Going to call back in a bit as i got a few more Q's to ask them

Re: bolt on 4 link coilover??

Have you thought about a weld in kit? I am having a local shop weld one in for me. It is a lot cheaper than I had expected ($300 if I supply all the parts; thought I am having him do a lot of work so he gave me a good deal).

I would think that a 4 linked coil over set up would be worth more than selling it stock. Look around online and see if there is a shop that does work for the local car clubs. I found that those places tend to be the least expensive and you can see their work at local shows.

Your not going to want to go back stock, as far as riding rough it depends on how you set it up. but by nature they are not a bad or noisy ride, most stock trucks are going with some type of 4-link now

Re: bolt on 4 link coilover??

Don't know if you know this, but the 4 link are great for straight shot. But if you plan on everyday driving the 4 link is not the best way to go. I've heard the 4 link makes noise going around corners. Also coil overs do not ride as nice as leaf springs. It looks bad ass, but not the best ride.

Just my 2 cents

No offense but have you driven a 4 link?

I daily drove my brothers 74 short bed that was bagged on an air ride technologies 4 link with sleeve bag behind the axle and it rode better than any other leaf spring vehicle that I ever drove. Granted it wasnt coil over but I have driven coil over cars that rode anywhere from gokarts to luxury cars.

This was coming from the companies that sell The 4 link setups. They all told me that leaf would give a better ride.

Maybe a factory leaf set-up rides better vs a race 4-link type set-up (race 4-link = heim joints, inboard springs, narrow width between the bars, etc...).

Leaf suspensions in the 67-87 swb trucks do not ride better vs coils in an apples to apples comparison. They do offer a more stable load support since the springs are outside of the frame rails. But, a properly set-up 4-bar (poly, swivel, or rubber bushings w/limited adjustability) & the right length coil-over would work well.

Re: bolt on 4 link coilover??

Believe me, I know what you mean. I've been doing nothing but research. I wanted 4 link so bad. After learning that, I read about 2 link, but it's still the same. You have one spring with the coil controlling everything. With the leaf spring you have all those leafs! When the truck compress's the extra leafs kick in and that is why the ride is so much better.

So now I'm trying to find the right leaf setup in the rear to lower my truck with the mustang in front to get the best ride possible.

Re: bolt on 4 link coilover??

I've been talking to more pro's on the subject and they told me if a 2 link was setup correctly it could give a better ride than leafs or 4 link for everyday driving, so I decided to go for it. I just got my Mustang II welded in an I'm going to get my motor mounts welded in the end of this week then I'll be installing the 2 link with some high end coil overs from component engineering. If I do all the work myself it should cost around $400. The part I will like is I will be able to adjust my ride height. Well see it go's

I've yet to see a pair of "high end" coil-overs cost less than $400 alone (much less the rest of the the rear suspension parts for $400 total). I'll have to look your parts source up as I've never heard of them.

Component Engineering is the brand?

I guess I should have stated the $400 was for the metal to build the 2 link. As far as the shocks, they are the C2770 which are around $450 which a friend had in his shop brand new and is giving those to me an it's Competition Engineering! Sorry for the misspell.
