I'm in the process of dropping a rebuilt 350 into my '72. When I took it out, the old motor mounts fell apart in my hand, so I bought new ones.

The problem is that I can't get them to line up with the towers now. I can get one or the other, depending on how I rock the engine back I forth. When I put one bolt in (just started) the other side of the engine is about 1/16th of an inch too high to get the bolt started. I spent three hours on this tonight, and no amount of prying, heaving or cussing has made this thing fit. It's like the towers are too close together or something.

Any tips to make this go easier?

Can you post some pics of the mounts and towers?

Try unbolting one of the motor mount stands. Then once the rubber mount is attached to the block rebolt the stand. Sometimes that's easier

yeah they are a pain the arse the best thing you can do is loossin the one side then you can get the stubborn side to line get your bolts started then you can tighten every thing up. I know it took my 6 hours to figure this out

Unbolt the towers, bolt the mounts to the engine and towers to the mounts and then towers to the frame. You will need a cherry picer but this is much much easier, except fo the PS bracket if you have PS.

yeah me and my dad had fun with mine also, it was a ***** but we did get it, lots of prying and swearing...and a bit of blood but shes in there nice and tight now

that style mount has agravated this crazy old man too many times! The last 3 trucks that got eng swaps, got the holes in the stands drilled to 5/8" .........the bolts fit now

Okay, attaching the passenger side tower to the motor mount first, then to the frame worked. I still ended up having to do quite a bit of heaving on the tower to get it to line up, but that's definately the way to go.

We had the same trouble putting in my 400. We loosened one tower up from the frame and were able to squeeze it in.
