Sealing an AD windshield

OK, so I've ordered new windshield glass and seal, how do you guys seal yours?

Any sealer around the glass?

Just seal the outer rubber against the cab?

Thanks!

In the rainy NW I sealed the glass to the rubber seal and sealed the rubber seal to the body. I started out dry and chased water leaks when it rained or when I washed it until I finally sealed both.

This is what I will be doing. The seal sealed the windshield great, except for a few places. For the extra insurance, I will be doing the above.

Re: Sealing an AD windshield

Permatex makes a flowable windsheild sealant thats great for after installation. It's clear and seeps into the spaces/gaps, then gels.

Re: Sealing an AD windshield

I had sealed my windshield with windshield urethane. I did this after it was in and set.

Re: Sealing an AD windshield

Thanks for the replies. I think I'll have a local glass shop seal it after the install. My current glass (original but foggy edges) and new seal leaks like a rain storm, top middle and outer lower corners, even after many attempts to seal it.

I'll install my new rubber and glass then let a shop handle it. By the time I spend 20-25 bucks for sealer, several more dollars for a good caulking gun, I could have paid someone that knows what they're doing to do it right.

Re: Sealing an AD windshield

I got caught in a monsoon storm last week and my windshield leaked at the bottom corners. I got some clear silicone caulk at Lowes (in the toothpaste tube, no caulking gun required). It was actually very easy to push the tip all the way down in the 'H' groove and fill it with silicone. Any silicone tha may have squirt out was easy to clean off with a plastic putty knife. Can't see anything now that it is dried. I put the garden hose on it today. Sealed great.

Re: Sealing an AD windshield

I finally got around to installing the new windshield/seal. First of all, my new glass arrived from Classic parts 8/30, I didn't open the box until yesterday, 9/21 to set the seal in the hot sun. This morning I discovered one of the panels is cracked. I suspect it was cracked before shipping, no damage to the box, no damage to the bubble wrap, plastic wrapper around glass had a major rub mark where the crack originates. Anyway, I emailed Classic this morning I'm sure they will take care of me.

I had already cut out my old gasket and removed the glass before the above discovery. (I know, stupid me) Didn't matter, my glass needs replacing. But, I'm glad things worked out like they did. The old gasket was from LMC and the windows dropped right in place, probably why they leaked, leaked really bad. The replacement gasket from Classic looked different, better, more beefy. So, with a friend helping me we reinstalled the old glass so my truck can be used this week. We like to never got the windows back in, took an hour at least. This new gasket lays out on the opening way better than the old one.

Yes, lots of soapy water, rope, plastic pry tools, several cases of 4 letter words, you name it. When the new glass finally goes in this week, today's experience will keep us from busting the new glass. I have a feeling the new gasket is going to seal just fine.
