Rear Axle U-Bolt Removal
I am just having too much fun trying to remove the U-Bolts on my rear axle. I have soaked and soaked and soaked and beat and beat and beat. At this point I plan to cut the bolts in half and try to get them out. Any tips?

don't cut your fingers off!!! those bolts are real hard to remove because the locking nuts are tight i used a 4foot piece of pipe on my breaker bar to remove them and it was still pretty difficult your better off just cutting and replacing them

I have the nuts off. Using a 5 foot breaker bar did the trick. I cannot get the u bolts out of the trailing arms.

To get them out of the trailing arms, I put the nuts barely back on the bolts and beat the crap out of them with a 5lb sledge. They came out ...I had new u-bolts and nuts to go back with anyway.

I always have to heat the nuts up with a torch, even then they are hard to turn
To get the ubolts out try threading the nuts back on part way then wacking it out with a BFH Last edited by Gee_Emm; 07-06-2003 at 10:58 AM. |

Try putting the nuts partway back on and then set the weight of the truck on the nuts. You can let the floor jack down quick onto a block and it'll be like using a two thousand pound hammer.
