I'm off for a week, cuz I do dishes where I work and cant get it wet, plus I've got some appointments here at my grandma's house. Hehe. Hope you enjoy the pics....

Haha. Yea, they called it a dirty wound. Go figure huh? lol. I went back yesterday for an infection check. I heal well. They did get a bunch of the the grease off. You cant see in those pics, but it went str8 thru part of my nail. Really painful. I almost fainted when they were giving me the numbing stuff. Cuz I couldn't move and I'm like clostraphobic and dont like to be like held down, it almost made me sick.

An old wise man said once:

"cut towards your chum, not towards your thumb"

I think of it everytime I start to cut something.

Looks like what I did to my thumb, except with a pair of sissors :P I had four stiches in mine, and have a HUGE scar on it, I would snap a picture, but all the digital cameras are out with my parents...

LAst time i had stitches it was in a finger, it was pretty cool becouse for the first time, i was able to watch the doc sew me up. (I've had stitches over a dozen times in my life)
I was doing great untill the doc told the nurse (a hottie by the way) to let go of my finger. As soon as she did that, (she was holding back the swelling in my finger so to speak) the swelling came back and I was able to watch 4 or the 7 stitches rip through my flesh.
That's when i almost passed out.

I couldn't watch him do anything or I woulda freaked out... There is nothing that spooks me more than someone working on my body, or sticking anything into me... Its a fight for the doctor to calm me down enough to get a needle or IV in... If I had seen that guy messing around with my cut, I probally would have canned him :P I didn't feel a thing though after I finally gave in and let them stick me with a pain killer into the wound, that HURT, at least until the deepest stich, I felt that one and then I was happy I told him to restrain me before he started :P

A couple years back I had a similar looking cut.

I was carring a heavy peice of steel and tripped over another peice of steel. My finger got pinched (smashed I should say) between the two peices of metal. It happened really fast. It didnt feel like it got smashed, just pinched a little bit. I was able to pull it out instantly. It didnt hurt that bad. I started waving my hand, you know how you do when you hurt your hand. Well during this waving a co-worker noticed blood, and pointed with a crazy look on his face. I stopped shaking my finger and looked at it. It was my right hand pinky. It looked like I chopped off about 1/2" off the tip. I could see the bone and chunks of skin hanging each way. Bloody as hell. The co worker rushed around looking for papertowels or something. I put them on my finger and held it tight. It was well over 100 that day and I was already feeling hot and tired, then this happened. I sat in the truck while he underhooked the trailer from the truck. I sat in the truck feeling like I was going to pass out. It hurt too much to think about crying. The co worker drove fast and ran the stop lights as soon as they were clear. He knew right were the closest hospital was and we got there fast. I walked into the ER as he parked the truck. I walked up to the window and the lady asked what my emergency was. I showed her my finger and the look on her face was priceless, she rushed me back to lay down. They turned on the tv and I waited for 10-15 minutes before they gave me a shot for the pain. When they did the stuck a needle in the wound twice and shot me with something good. My arm starting going numb all the way up, it felt so good. I felt like a drug user getting their fix. I laid back and forgot about the whole thing. Ended up being a fracture in the bone and 13 stiches on the tip of my finger. The finger is healed now but still looks kind of funny. Feeling in it has never been the same. tingles sometimes and doesnt feel difference tempertures very well. But atleast I still have all my finger and then some, its now a little bigger.
The first night I woke up when the pain killer stopped working. I bumped my finger on something and it hurt bad. I didnt get back to sleep. They gave me pain pills, that made me sick to my stomache. It had some nasty puss coming out of it for awhile, but I was treating it right and taking the right medication.

Yesterday while trying to give my gf's car a jump I noticed the rubber on the grips (clamps on cables) melting a little bit. Like a dumbass I grabbed them off right away and tossed them on the ground, From both our vehicles. They were hot, but didnt feel that hot. All of a sudden my finger starting burning very bad. I looked and big blisters starting rising from my two fingers. I have been burned a lot of times, but that one hurt very badly all day. It doesnt hurt at all now. Anyway the battery had an internal short and thats why it was getting so hot. 6 hours later the battery terminals were still hot to the touch. It took a cold jar full of icy water and a few beers to kill the pain. Then I feel asleep. I woke up to an almost pain free hand

Sorry to hear about your injury. Makes you appreciate your hand that much more doesnt it Mine was the pinky, it hurt, but you dont need your pinky. Thumb is very important. It must be getting in your way all day long. I could barely drive my truck, because its stick and my finger kept bumping the stick, man it hurt. Ohh yeah I forgot, are you going to loose the nail? The doctor told me that fine looked fine, but a couple weeks later the whole thing just fell off. You could poke it and it didnt hurt at all under there. New nail grew back, but not as smooth. You will probably loose some feeling in your thumb. I can still feel with my pinky, but its a different feeling, not bad, just different. Good luck and hope it heals up great, keep it clean and do what the doctors tell you to do!

Yeah, the patch of skin that was cut off I still can't really feel things the same out of it.. I didn't hit the nail at all, so I did loose but, but wow, it feels weird when you do loose a nail LOL I lost one on my toe after I stubbed it really hard on the side of a swimming pool (NEVER run at the pool! They have a reason for those signs! :P) It fell off then grew back, looks the same as it did before for me...

a buddy of mine cuts himself every time he picks up a knife. lol, is become a major joke for years now....he is still cutting himself lol

i havent had many stitches, but i prob could have gotten them. my trusty tube of super glue has taken care of many nice slices. but i dont think super glue would have helped much in your case!

My father uses clean electrical tape often, my father and myself have huge immune systems and don't get sick nor do our cuts get infected very often, so it works for us, but when he cut part of his finger off with the table saw, yeah, we went to the doctor that time :P

Smith and Wesson makes a GREAT knife, in my opinion. I've done a lot of damage to finger tips in my time, (drilled through 2 of them, and cut another one with the piece on the drill press got loose and went spinning around along with some real nasty blisters from cooking and from working on cars) but I've never done any damage with my Smith. Knock on wood!!!

done somthing like that when i was 16.
i was cutting a rubber hose with a razor blade and slipped. put that razor blade all the way to the bone on top of my thumb.
ended up cutting the tendon into, rushed to the er and they has to make an even bigger cut ,flapping the skin back,to get to the 2 ends of the tendon. tendons are like rubberbands
but i got to watch the whole deal, and i have a real nice scar across the top of my thumb and almost 20 years later i still cant feel the top of my thumb and if i bang it just right its like a lithning bolt rips through my hand.

Hope you don't have nerve damage. I cut my left hand ring finger a few years ago bad enough to need stitches and now it is a bit numb all of the time. It seems to make it more susceptible (sp?) as whenever I hurt a finger now it seems most often to be that one. I sort of decided then that I don't want to suffer any more damage of that nature if I can at all avoid it.

When I was in 8th grade woodshop a kid was using an electric plainer. The shop teacher told us time and time again how you have to go with the grain of the wood.

This kid tried to plain the END of the board... The plainer pops the wood up..the kids thumb went right into the plainer.

We were all busy and didnt notice till the kid went over to the shop teacher and we hear.."OH MY GOD!!!!"

A deli wouldnt have been able to slice it any better. With every beat of his heart..blood shot across the tables where we were.

We wouldnt use that plainer for the rest of the year..everyone was too scared or got sick to the stomach thinking about it.
