Factory like paint job ideas???

Hi ya'all thought I would share this new I idea I thought of(I think I'm the first.....) anyway would like to have your opinion and also please share your factory like paint jobs with an added idea here and there that still looks like factory. For example, shown in picture is the hood of my truck primed with the strip painted silver. Looks like it could have been factory but wasn't. Thanks. T.J.

Re: Factory like paint job ideas???

This is my attempt at factory two tone. The truck originally had body mouldings but they were trashed so I welded up the holes. When I mixed the teal blue, I simply tried to match what I believe is the factory paint on the firewall.

Re: Factory like paint job ideas???

I get your idea and I've been thinking along the same lines. GMC had a different 2 tone scheme for 60-61 but I like it better than the later one so I might use it on my 62.

This:

Instead of this:
(Stupid Fotobucket won't upload the pic I want to put here. Grrr...)
I saw some earlier model GMC emblems with "Hydramatic" on them that I thought about using also.
I made my 63 Nova an SS. I like the 65 SS quarter emblems so I plan to use those and mix and match years so I won't be accused of trying to pass it off as genuine.

Re: Factory like paint job ideas???

Thanks for the compliments. It means a lot 'cause it's all home built. As for the caps, Im not sure what COPO means but I've always thought of them as early minivan. A good friend gave them to me in like new condition, a few years back.

The minivan ones I've seen are similar but have a much squarer shape but they certainly could be. They look nice

Re: Factory like paint job ideas???

These caps aren't specific to COPO cars, base cars came with these dog dish caps, they are easier to find than many people think. My sister bought a new 1968 Chevelle, it came with poverty/dog dish caps. 307, three speed on the column and 3:08 posi rear, otherwise a base Chevelle.
My dad had a 70 Biscayne and 71 Impala with dog dish caps.

Re: Factory like paint job ideas???

One thing I have been considering TJ is, how would a factory type non-metalic base color, say a red, orange, or a pale green go with a trim color which is more of a beige or almond perhaps on the roof, mirrors, grill, and bumpers. Near as I know factory trim is always white but I'm strongly considering changing it up next time, yet still keeping with my basically stock exterior.

I plan to paint my truck a dark blue with the top half of the cab painted silver, same two tone style as yours. I am not to clear on what you meant, but I believe you meant that a base color would be the color of the truck say red, and the trim color would be beige? I know that stock would be red, white trim, or red and custom option, chrome bumpers, aluminum grill, ect....

Re: Factory like paint job ideas???

Your color scheme sounds cool, Yea, base color to me is primary body color. I see many restored trucks with black rims, although it does look "Chevy Tough", I favor body color wheels which I guess might also be considered "factory like". Anybody got an explanation as to why certain c10s had black wheels. Was it a base model thing?

I'll toss in a picture of my factory orange/ off sorta white two tone. It's the only one I've seen with this style of two tone.

Nice! Ideas like this are what I'm looking for. It doesn't have to be factory it just has to look like it could be mistaken for factory. Your is also a good example! thanks for sharing. T.J.
