Alternator question
What does "11 o'clock" and "3 o'clock" mean with alternators? Is that supposed to be the position of the alt. relative to the crank pulley?

I was looking at getting a Power Master alternator and the site (YearOne) has 140 amps for "11 o'clock" and "3 o'clock", and both are listed as 87 models.

The 11 o'clock are for nonserpentine belt systems. The 3 o'clock are for serpentine belt systems like Vettes and sports cars. But the 3' I've seen are on later LT1 and LS engines.

"Clock" positions are figured by the plug's (the main plug on the alt) position "as mounted". Hope this helps!

Yep, I agree with M1A1driver. that is what they are refering to. The position of the plug in relation to the vertical centerline of the engine.
