Sign/badge on dashboard 3104 TF 1957

I have this sign/badge on my dash, close to the glovebox in my -57 1/2ton pickup.
I wonder if it means that its a former armytruck, or why does it say "U.S.Property" on it.

Start looking for original paint. OD is probably Army. Dark blue Air Force. If its a crew cab was probably used for aircraft crews on the flight line.

Mine was a "Department of Navy" truck and had this attached to the fire wall.

Re: Sign/badge on dashboard 3104 TF 1957

my understanding is... if it was military; ie navy, army, air force it did not have a vin. instead it had a serial number.
federal civilian duty; ie forest service, area 51, federal motor pool vehicles and such had vin numbers. many federal vehicles were turquoise in color.
many military vehicles ended up in federal civilian duty like forestry service.
look under the hood. it should have daily maintenance schedule stenciled under the hood.
if it has a vin (vehicle identification number) tag on the drivers door jam look at the lmc truck vin decoder (no ring necessary)

Thanks, I'll take a look at the vinplate later today!

I looked under the hood, no sign of a maintinence scedule...and no vinplate on the door jam either only this trim/paint tag
So it seems that you are right about not having vin:s on milytary vehicles

Looks AF blue to me (and I should know after 26 years). The tag could be any gov't agency. The Fed Stock Number *should* tell you which agency ordered it.

Re: Sign/badge on dashboard 3104 TF 1957

Google the FSN and see if it show's a description. IE: Air Force blue. We had some parts for the F-16 that we could order in either Grey (avionics bay) or black (helicopter use) at one time. The NSN's (what that number is now called) were different for the exterior color of the box.

It *may* shed some light. It may not. Google may come back with a result.

If not, let me know the number and I'll see if my full time buds at the guard can look it up.

The area 51 vehicles are tricky to spot due to the optional cloaking device.

Re: Sign/badge on dashboard 3104 TF 1957

The trim tag shows special order paint. The VIN plate, if it's there, is on the forward portion of the door frame toward the top.

So far, the first four digits are nothing special. 2320 indicates the truck was in the motor vehicles, trucks, and trailers group and was classed as trucks and truck tractors, wheeled.

Edit: A post by a gentleman with another 3100 with similar FSN: http://www.stovebolt.com/ubbthreads/...=677648&page=1

Hmmm... more progress, maybe:
