Trans Fluid leaking from Rad - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

Finally driven my truck after 3 months, parked in the garage last night, pulled her out today for another little, there was a huge puddle of trans fluid under the rad. I checked the trans lines connected to the stock rad and they were bone dry, is it possible for fluid to leak from the rad itself. There is no trans fluid in the coolant.

are you sure it is not power steering fluid ?

If a line is leaking yeah but if the cooler leaks it goes into the coolant. I would double check pwr strg as mentioned above

Thats what I figured it would be in the the coolant, I double checked the PS and nothing around that, all I can see is its dripping from the bolt on the rad support passenger side mount and there is some pooled under the rad, I don't remember wasting anything around that area.

Clean it really good, then fire it up, have someone hold the brake and put it in reverse (has the most pressure) and while they're holding it check for leaks...

It won't be in the coolant if it is leaking out in the finned cooling surface. I would check there.

The trans cooler doesn't go into the finned area, it's immersed in the coolant in the tank on the cool side of the radiator..

Check your cooler line ends and connections at the radiator. You might have a bent flare or other issue. Use quality flare nut wrenches and tighten/ loosen the several times to seat them good and be sure they are mated.

Thanks guys, it will be another couple day before I get back in the garage. I will do the reverse and brake, when I get back at her.

If it is the radiator,you can always put an aftermarket trans cooler on it. Might be a cheaper fix
