Re: 1958 with 1.3 original miles
Interesting and I'd love to see it, but...you could NEVER drive it. It's only real dollar value is how unique it is that's its a "new" 55-60 year old vehicle.

If it's the one from Lambrecht's, it has a caved-in roof.

Re: 1958 with 1.3 original miles
yep it's that one had some rust issues too. press is all over the low mileage tale without bothering to mention most of the 500 have spent the last 40-50 winters parked outside in a field...

Re: 1958 with 1.3 original miles
All the pics I have seen those cars might as well have 300000 miles since they are all pretty jacked up from sitting outside. There might be a handful of decent cars but most look like hell. I'm really surprised how much has been made of this auction. Most likely everyone will pay way too much for basic near junk cars.

Some were stored indoors but not many. Here is an interesting article about them.....

Re: 1958 with 1.3 original miles
Dad and I are going to the auction, if for no other reason than to say we were there. Bringing his handicapped tag for *maybe* better parking. He actually is handicapped, so it's not like we're scamming or anything. The second day on-line stuff looks to be better in terms of pricing. There are a ton of 65-69 Impala's and Bel Air's which is keeping the price down on those. Might be fun building a Supernatural tribute car from one of them. the used 67-72 trucks are also going "cheap" right now as are the early 50 Chevy cars. Those are three categories that look in decent condition that could be had "reasonibly". The AD trucks seem to be 500 and up and it's damn near impossible to see any rust damage in the corners, doors, floor wells, etc.
I'm on strict orders not to buy anything. Dad on the other hand... He may not have the desire to build another from the ground up, but if he owns it and I work on it, that wouldn't be an issue with my CFO. I actually have my heart set on a wagon or 66 C10 based on childhood memories. But, early pricing doesn't look favorable.

Re: 1958 with 1.3 original miles
I'd think that a lot of the ones from the mid 60's early 70's were high mileage trade ins that he couldn't or didn't want to sell on his car lot and shipped out to the farm rather than wholesaling them. Not bad for his family when they are now getting several times what the rigs sold for new and a whole lot more than they gave trade in for them.
I think when it's all said and done there will be a lot of people who come to the realization that they paid several times over what they should have for a number of those cars and a hand full of people who actually did get some project car and truck bargains. I'll say this, If I was auctioning a big batch of old cars off in the midwest I'd sure be wanting to see if I could get that auction company to do the selling. They have done an outstanding job promoting and pushing that auction.

Makes me wonder if they thought about doing this when they first looked at going into a nursing home, but got caught up in the recession. Think of what type of money this would have brought in 2008 when more people had savings!

Re: 1958 with 1.3 original miles
So if you have to dump tens of thousands of dollars into restoring a brand new car is it still brand new when you're finished ? I'm betting that most of the better stuff gets displayed "as found" in some rich dudes car collection and the rough stuff gets parted out.

Re: 1958 with 1.3 original miles
You have to look at for what it is. The only 1958 cameo (or probably any cameo) in existence with 1.3 well documented miles. I look for some of these cars and trucks to hit Barrett Jackson soon. My question is does buyer fix roof or not?

Re: 1958 with 1.3 original miles
Thats an interesting question, I personally would have the roof repaired & clean up the body as best I can. I don't think you would take away from its value if this was done?

Re: 1958 with 1.3 original miles
Some big money changed hands there, usually more than I would have paid for the vehicle. The buyers ID was mostly covered but it seems that O****E bought most of the trucks including the Cameo, and many of the cars.

Re: 1958 with 1.3 original miles
If O****E was an internet buyer the buyer bought 95% of day one of the auction for $1,605,605! Including $118,928 in buyers premium. Now the big question is who is O****E?
