starter solenoid not working
I bought a procomp mini starter only to have it not work properly. alignment is perfect. when starting normally it just clicks, but not your typical starter solenoid click. very faint click. I metered ignition wire and have at least 12.5 volts when turning key. voltage does not drop even if keeping key turned as if starting for a while. battery is new. if I jump solenoid with screwdriver from battery lug to the small ignition wire lug...it works great. its as if the solenoid is not getting enough amperage through the ignition wire to the solenoid. I am going to swap the solenoid out with another one that I just removed from truck. so with that said the truck was running with the basic oem starter/solenoid. is this a wiring problem or just maybe a bad solenoid? I really want to use the mini starter.

Re: starter solenoid not working
i would start by cleaning and tightening all connections including your ground sides involved
just lookin and giving them a harsh stare will do nothing to help remove clean install and tighten

Re: starter solenoid not working
I agree, sounds more like a ground problem than anything else.

Re: starter solenoid not working
yes Lee I checked voltage on the starter wire [not battery wire] and it maintained 12.5 volts the entire time key was in the cranking position.
is it possible that the solenoid could be sticking or possibly bad? |

Re: starter solenoid not working
I will double check connections tomorrow. like I said I took a working starter off today so it at least good enough connections for the factory starter but anything is possible.

Re: starter solenoid not working
Is the starter wire (not the cable) getting a full 12 volts at the starter during start?

Re: starter solenoid not working
I found the problem today. it was the solenoid. it would work then not work so I removed the solenoid and bench tested it with some jumper cables from battery to the solenoid . had same results. it would work then stop working all together. will I ever learn ...buying cheap ebay knock off stuff.
