8 inch or 10 inch steel wheels that accept a factory hubcap
Where is the best place to find either a 15x8 or if possible a 15x10 steel wheel that will accept a factory truck hubcap. 5 on 5 bolt pattern.

Re: 8 inch or 10 inch steel wheels that accept a factory hubcap
Some of the after market steel Rally wheels are junk and they also crank them out on automated production lines with little design consideration to important details (+ or - 1/2") like the proper back spacing for our old trucks front ends. Cheap is their objective.
15 X 10s with a stock OEM 4 inch back space won't fir on the front, they hit the steering knuckles and more. 15 X 8s with the wrong backspacing won't fit without rubbing either and if you disc brake convert upfront you have to consider caliper clearance. If you want a decent wheel, the same on all 4 so you can rotate your tires stick with the 15 X 8 , factory 4 inch back space 5 on 5. Not trying to scare you, just learn from my mistakes, do your homework, test fit and closely measure.

I was not aware of 15x8 5x5 plain steel wheels that accept a "poverty" cap being offered in 71-72 (or later for that matter), only 15x6. I have never seen any oem. Only 6 lug in 15x8 oem. I am prepared to be enlightened! |

Wheel vintiques. Summit sells this brand and is cheaper than wheel vintiques direct do to volume I suppose.. If they don't have what ya need in the catalog, call a rep, they will hook you up.
Of coarse you can always check this site first in the wtb...

Re: 8 inch or 10 inch steel wheels that accept a factory hubcap
Thanks guys, I'm not looking for rally's. just stock style steel but a little wider. And it's getting 6 inch wide steel wheels on the front so I don't have to worry about fitment there. It looks like wheel vintiques has what I need.

I don't believe that there were factory 15x8 steelies in a 5 lug truck pattern. I'm sure aftermarket is my only hope.

Re: 8 inch or 10 inch steel wheels that accept a factory hubcap
1/2 ton trucks were 6 lug in 1970, not 5 lug. It would have had to have been swapped to 5 lug. My guess is the wheels are aftermarket and were installed when the 6 lug to 5 lug swap was done. There will be some sort of manufaturer information stamped on them somewhere that would answer this question.

Can't you get them widened? Wouldn't that be easier at the end of the day?

Kelsey Hayes made some but not sure if they ever came on anything from the factory.

Re: 8 inch or 10 inch steel wheels that accept a factory hubcap
I've owned a set of factory 5x5 8 inch hubcap style wheels. I bought them from Scoti here on the board. Definitely not aftermarket. My set was brand new NOS with the decals on them.
That said, getting an 8 inch 5 lug wheel for factory poverty caps is as easy as a phone call to Summit. They keep them in stock for about 84 dollars per each. Free shipping if you order 99 dollars, so a pair of the wheels would qualify for that. |

Here is a place I found while searching awhile back, but haven't heard any feedback about their quality.

8 inch wide 5x5 hubcap wheels.
http://www.summitracing.com/parts/wv...5044/overview/ They also have 5, 6, 7, and 10" wide wheels in that style. |

Re: 8 inch or 10 inch steel wheels that accept a factory hubcap
I only know of factory "style" 5 on 5s,which were made by Kelsey Hayes who also made the factory wheels. But,they weren't a factory option. I have the old 8" 5 on 5s for my '67 project. I have a pair of 10 x 15 6-lugs that are widened 8ers. Years ago I had a set of 5 on 5 8.25/9.75 x 16.5s made by Kelsey Hayes but not factory. Looks pretty good black with '55 Chevy car hubcaps.
