What is this thing??
I replaced the speedo transmission seals and this was between the transmission and the speedo cable. it was really loose with no fix and the cable looked like it fit to the trans without it. I searched through the posts on how to do the job and didnt see such a thing on the other transmissions. So I left it off and the speedo works like a charm with out it. Anybody know what it is. its made by Stewart Warner!

Re: What is this thing??
Looks like a device to correct the speedometer reading.

Re: What is this thing??
Don't trash it; someone will want it when they change tire sizes. It should be stamped with a ratio of some sort. 1.059:1, 0.833:1, something.

It should be stamped on the side (on that flat embossment) what the correction factor is. I usually keep a couple around for just such an emergency. K

Re: What is this thing??
Yea I kept it. The trans was leaking and I think it was the seals on the speedo cable mount, and that thing even after I tightened it was still a little loose feeling so I bypassed it. It was just a regular truck with regular tires and wheels so it confuses me why it would be on there in the first place but with the setup I have the speedos probly not gonna be right with or without it so I figure why have extra parts on it, just more places to leak!So I replaced the seals and so far no more leak so we will see.

Re: What is this thing??
That's an adapter that I know is found on 4x4's to correct the spdo reading.
Kinda like a gear reduction to make the speedo read correctly.

Re: What is this thing??
Hmm, Ok thanks for all the replies. I didnt see much of a difference on the speedo but maybe I need to drive it a little more. I think it was the source for the mysterious red spot on the garage floor though lol!! thanks again everyone!

Re: What is this thing??
It might be factory too. (correct me if I'm wrong)
Both my 71 3/4 ton and my 69 Custom 30 wrecker have those. Both have the 4 speed and 4.10 rear. I've seen them on junkyard trucks with these combos too.

Re: What is this thing??
Yes, speed ratio adapters. I've got one on both my 69 C20 and 70 K10. The one is coming off of my C20 though because I'm converting to a Dakota Digital VHX gauge cluster and won't need it any more.
