Ouch, be glad it was the truck and not a shorter small car or MC. I have friends that got pretty messed up (car, deer thru windshield) and had over a year of surgery and pt just to walk again (MC hit at 65 mph, luckily he was with a bunch of guys or he would have died).

Thanks for the good advice and sympathy!
Even though the Sheriff said, "Go ahead to the show. I think you have used up the bad luck, today", I headed home.

I pulled the fender back from the tire and was worried about the rubbing. I had just gone about ten miles from home, when it happened.

Orrie is right, but I still got hoof marks on the front edge of the roof and a slight flattened spot on the roof over the passenger area.

Dude that stinks. Deer belong between the beans and the gravy, not the bumper and the door. Glad you were Okay trucks are rebuildable.

Ouch, that isn't going to rub out this time.

At least it looks like most of the damage is an unbolt and bolt on thing with the hood and fender. I think I'd push that spot on the roof up with a porta power while working the spot that is going to need working between it and the corner depending on how much bondo is around the sun roof opening.

I think now is the time for a different roof. I have never liked the Porsche 944 moon roof and some butcher cut open the rear roof for a 14" rv crank-up vent, then spot welded a patch piece in and smeared bondo over it.
I found a slightly dented, but intact roof, on a junked '59, so it may be time to cut off the old roof off my '57.

That will work, right? Getting my (special to me) stock and semi-dark tinted windshield back in place would be my only concern.

I am sorta nervous about dealing with the inevitable insurance adjuster.

I emailed my agent and he filed the claim before I even had time to call him.
I only have to get one estimate, so I will head toward a local hot rod shop.

I am having it aligned right now. I had it done about 300 miles ago and it has been driving perfectly. I think the doe hit the wheel pretty hard and it felt "funny" driving home.

Sorry about your truck. I had a hail incident to one of my trucks, and JC Taylor paid off nicely, no questions asked. I got an estimate from my body shop, sent in some photos, and had a check in the mail a few days later.

regarding the roof replacement, I would not mess with the the top of the windshield frame and area above the doors. You can cut and weld it back from the front and just above the drip channel and not mess up the glass or door alignment. Also avoids having to weld and align the inner panels too. Your body guy might just also want to do two strips drip rail to drip rail at the offending roof openings. Find a Porsche guy that needs the moon-roof and the work is paid for!

Orrie- I would like to leave my sweet windshield area alone. It is perfect, at this point.
I will use your suggestion and run the idea by the body shop manager. BTW, I have to drive 30-miles (or more) any direction to find a quality hot rod body shop.
The estimate got postponed as my mechanic couldn't get to my alignment.

Sorry to see that one. Glad you're ok at least. Be happy you don't have moose to contend with. 700 lbs or more at windshield height does a number on any vehicle.

it does look like it's time to change the roof. I'd have to hunt down the story or thread but more than one guy has replaced most of the roof using the donor roof as a really large patch. They usually trim it so that they are welding on the radius of the curve on the outer part of the roof to help cut down on warping and to be able to reach it to hammer weld it.

replacing the roof becomes a nightmare so it you can find a good skin just replace the damaged area. try and find somebody in your area or you might want to sign up for a weekend metal working class like the ones Gene Winfield puts on. Bet you would meet someone there that has the skill to repair your roof.

I am becoming convinced to find a donor roof and do sectional roof repairs. I found a donor roof about 200 miles from me, if it is still available.
Monday I will visit one of the top body shops and see what they say. I will update you'all tomorrow evening.

My grandfather hit a dear Thursday (his 4th one) and I almost hit one that same morning. Neither of us were in our restoration vehicles but seen this makes you think things can get worse. Glad to see your truck is not totaled.

My ongoing truck projects: 48 Chev 3100 that will run a 292 Six. 71 GMC 2500 that is getting a Cad 500 transplant. 77 C 30 dualie, 454, 4 speed with a 10 foot flatbed and hoist. It does the heavy work and hauls the projects around.
