Timing?
I have a '69 C/10 with a 305 V8.
I just put an edelbrock performer intake manifold and carb. it runs now, but the timing was way off when we put it back together, even though we marked where it was and put it back the same. we used a timing light to set it and tried 8 to 10, but it still seems to be kinda sputtering and coughing about in the middle of the throttle. it starts right up, and it doesn't diesel when i kill it. where do you guys time your trucks? would it be bad to advance it? would that maybe help the coughing and hesitation? |

yeah, my buddy had the carb on a really souped up 327 and we didnt adjust the settings at all yet.
do the screws on the front of the edelbrock carbs only adjust the idle air fuel mixture, or will they effect it when you are on the throttle too? or do we have to adjust more than just the screws on the front? |

Your 305 will be fairly low comp, if you are runnning an HEI dist, I would shoot for about 11-12 degrees initial. if you want to play with the curve a little, you can install a Crane adjustable vac can, & a yellow/blue spring combo on the mechanical advance. Good luck, crazyL

I have a timing light but I really can't remember the last time I used it. I have had so many chevys that the timing marks were really far off that I just forget the light. Advance it till it pings under full trottle and back it off till it quits pinging. If it cranks without kicking back thats where I run it.
