Opinions about original helper springs

I am thinking about finding and installing a set of original helper springs to beef up the load capacity of my 66 c10 lwb. I carried a full load of compost the other day and the bed really angled down in the back. I would like some opinions about how well these helper springs work, and any ideas on where I could get a set. I think this is what one of the springs looks like.

Re: Opinions about original helper springs

You will have to find the rear end that has the bumpers on them for the auxiliary springs to rest on....I have a pic somewhere...let me look

Heres some pics of the mount that goes between the trailing arms and the rear end...the springs will rest on these and mount to the frame

Thanks to help from this forum, I was able to get the right helper springs from my truck, but the rubber mounts are pretty much toast. Where did you get what looks like new rubber bumpers shown in this picture you posted?
Thanks

Re: Opinions about original helper springs

The springs in the top pic aren't the factory helper springs. The springs in post #3 are.

My 65 has them. Going from memory, the GVW is higher for trucks equipped with this option.

They are good for an extra 500lbs per each side.

Re: Opinions about original helper springs

Ill get the part numbers posted tonight. Ive seem them listed as auxiliary springs in my literature. Found a nice set last night, shortly after posting that I wanted a set. Should be enroute as we speak.

My 65 (LWB C10) has the multi-leaf springs. I'd never seen the single leaves until this thread.

Re: Opinions about original helper springs

67-72 models had the single leaf from what ive seen and the triple leaf in 60-66. just from what i gathered off the 67-72 threads...but the frame and rear ends were thhe same, so i dont see where either model wouldnt work just fine

Re: Opinions about original helper springs

and the mounts look the same, the springs are reproduced, so i imagine you could always put new triple leafs on...lmc shows the same part for 60-72

next concern is figureing out placement of tow bar, factory rear tow hooks and the overload springs...this will be fun

Re: Opinions about original helper springs

Hi guys i just signed yesterday COOL. Anyway my 66 SWB has the Auxiliary Spring equipment installed from the factory as shown in my SPID. Unfortunately the passenger side support plate was broken many years ago. I have acquired a NOS set from Ebay about a month ago but i haven't been able to located the rubber bumpers that 1963c-10 posted in this thread. The P&A 31 parts catalog does not list the part number for rubber bumpers and I am in dire need of some new ones. Any suggestions
